Getting a cheap PSU might give u alot of problems, like killing some of your hardware

Vague much? Regardless, the Neo is a good PSU.

Incorrect. Let's not guide this guy the wrong way huh?

You can get a comparable good PSU for less money, though, OP.

NZXT HALE82 $88 after 20% off w/ promo NZXTAPRIL12, $58 after MIR. Modular, enough power for even a 2nd 7850.. I wouldn't miss this one.

So you expect everyone to know if a certain PSU is good quality without a review anywhere on the net to back it up? You have got to be kidding. Before abruptly telling someone they are misguiding, know that not everyone will know the quality of every single unit out there.

IF you dont know, don't assume, that's all.

The case you have is nice, but if you want to shave money, the NZXT Source 220 for $48 w/ promo code NZXTAPRIL12 is pretty nice. As is the NZXT Tempest 210 for $44 w/ same promo. Simple design, cable management, plenty of airflow.

I like the deal you found on the Spinpoint F3 1TB, & I don't want to open a can of worms suggesting that Ivy isn't all it's cracked up to be tongue.gif

Iwould recommend a i5 2550k for gaming and overclocking build.
Ivy isn't great for air & water cooling.
Get this setup:
cpu- i5 2550k
mobo- asrock z77 extreme4
ram- 2x4gb gskill ripjawsX 1600mhz cl9 (perfect for a gaming build)
gpu- gtx580 (going for pretty cheap now,$359)
psu- corsair tx650 v2
pc case- nzxt gamma (best in its class amongst sub $4o pc case)
hdd- 1tb samsung sprinpoint f3
cooler- cm hyper 212 evo

The i5-2550k is not worth the $. You lose a valuable diagnostic tool. I don't know what the hell Intel was thinking with that one.

Thread Starter
I made some of the recommended changes:
- Switched from Samsung to WD
- Switched from NeoEco PSU to Earthwatts
- I'm going to ask my brother about the NZXT Source 220 or Tempest 210

I want to stay with Ivy Bridge, or at least until some real reviews come out. The overheating may be because they are ES chips. And for anyone who is using microcenter prices, I don't have one near me, so that is out of the question.
Also, I'm not going to be really overclocking too much. 4.5GHZ is plenty for me.

At 4.5 GHz, IVB should be just fine.

do you guys even read the first couple posts? he said gaming was second to its main purpose: video editing.

one way too make it cheaper would be to use linux or windows 8 preview
post #30 of 43
In that case, get the i7-3770k or the i7-2600k. The 2700k is not worth the extra $40. smile.gif
