Should i get a GTX 480?

Thread Starter
I have an EVGA GTS 250 and have been planning on upgrading in the near future, but i recently saw the 480 on sale on newegg for only 209.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130759

The only thing stopping me from buying it right now is that i don't know if i could get a better performing 600 series card for around $200 later this year. So, what do you think would be better? A 480 or whatever will cost the same amount in the 600 series?

GTX480 would be a huge upgrade but also use a lot more power and produce a lot more heat. A card thats going to be as fast or beat GTX480 from 600 Series will be more then $200 for sure. More like $300.

Your PSU will power it plenty fine, and your cooling should also be fine. It is a huge upgrade from a GTS 250, I say go for it.

He was not doubting your cooling capability. He was just saying what comes with the 480 at that low price point, high power consumption, and heat thumb.gif. But, it is a great card none the less. I love mine!

Maybe look at something like GTX 560 Ti or HD 6950 2GB. Buying in OCN Market Place could save you some money. The only real problem with GTX 480 is high temps which would require higher fan speeds.

It's the place on overclock.net that people sell their unwanted electronics/computer parts.

I'm just kind of afraid that it would get really old really fast. After all, its like 2 years old.
