Should i get a GTX 480? - Page 2

u cud but 480 draws a lot of heat and power. My friend doesn't call his 2 cards the EVGA "grill"force 465 in sli mode. I heard hes gone to 80 or even 90 at times so watch the temps. a 680 card wud be better tho but u might be waiting a month or 2 to get around the 480's price range

Get a 480 they are awesom- i have one, it runs everything high-ultra 50+ fps @ 1080 with 4x (often more) AA.

http://zalman.com/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=385

Also if you are interested get one of those zalman VF3000 coolers- my stock fan died so I had too- but honestly its a good upgrade... my gpu temps went from high 80s to low 50s during heavy use.

the 480 might be an older card but still puts out some respectable numbers.... and they run hotter than most cards, but it's not as bad as everyone says way to beat a dead horse. for the price it's a great card you could bump to a 7850 for around the 250 ish range and trade blows

I've never really thought about installing a custom GPU cooler. Is it difficult to do?

Just picked up a 480 my self. Immediately took it to 800/2000/1.138 and with a Sickflow intake fan on the side of my case it doesn't get above 80c at 85% fan speed.

I don't see the big deal with the heat if you have halfway decent cooling.

Compared to the GTS250 you have, it will blow your mind.

Here's a quick comparison.

I just picked one up recently as well, and it is a fast card. With stock fan speed settings mine would get up to mid 90s, but with custom fan profile it never got up to 80C. With the Antec 620 cooler attached to it with zip ties like this http://www.overclock.net/t/1140299/gtx-480-sli-antec-620s-mod I get good temperatures with a 895 mhz core clock.(and quiet) The card is very fast for the price. It matches cards in the 250-300$ price range easily. I'd go for it if you're looking for great performance at the ~200$ price point.

All of the sudden, i'm a little afraid that it won't fit in my case. I know that it says its 10.5 inches, but what part of the card to what part of the card is that measured from?
