Should i get a GTX 480? - Page 4

For $210 you're not going to get a better GPU than that 480. Used 6950s and 560 ti's go for around $220 now or a bit less, and they perform worse than a 480 and are used. That 480 is brand new, only bad things are it uses a bunch of power, runs hot as hell, and is 2 generations old now. I still say get it though, it's a great card

Alright, i just got it and installed it. It's a very tight fit, but it works great! All my frame rates just about tripled, and now i can play skyrim on decent textures without lag spikes biggrin.gif

I say wait.

The 480 is a good card but as other people have already said it does consume a lot of power and heat but another down side is the noise the fan makes, enough to rip a hole in the fabric of space and time.

The GTX 480 is a great card but save your money, and get a GTX 660TI when that arrives, i bet it will be on pair with the GTX480.

How do you update the gpu bios? I've heard of doing that before, but it seems like it could be difficult or problematic. How much of a performance difference would there be?

I updated mine to unlock higher voltages, but I noticed no performance difference. It didn't even net me much more overclocking headroom, probably not worth the risk if you are not sure you can make the process go smoothly.
