2600K + MSI Z77A-GD65 Need some help upgrading

I've decided not to get Ivy and stick with Sandy since it seems to be proven and overclocks well. Hoping to run around 4.3-4.5Ghz Stable 24/7 (higher would be great but that's my goal). I'll be getting more RAM and probs a new PSU (just FYI not main topic)... Have a GTX480 (Accelero cooler on it) and am planning on sticking with that till GK110 drops.

basically I've only ever used ASUS boards and was thinking of trying out an MSI. Also I hear there are some advantages to moving to a newer gen motherboard (from other posts) even if only using a Sandy. If anyone has any suggestions on a different board they really liked I'd be open to suggestions... Newegg has a combo deal for $459.98 with the 2600K and the Z77 MSI board. I know I won't get PCIE3.0 compatibility but I'm not too bothered by that at the moment.

Thanks in advance thumb.gif

Ivy Can OC to those levels without issue. I don't think you wil see many noticable advantages, but there are some of moving to a more mature motherboard. Z77 is like the third revision of P67 boards lol. So yea youw ill see some benefits.

hmm okay, I'm still pretty confused about ivy lol. From what I understand it won't overclock well due to temps. If it only clocks to 4.5Ghz(average) if Sandy is cheaper I don't really see the point.

good to know, thank you thumb.gif

I've been reading forums, on google, and talking with other members almost all day. I've decided to wait till the US retail versions of Ivy pan out. Most of the reviews I have seen are on ES's. You are also right about PCIE3.0, Ill be looking to grab GK110 when it is released. Don't know if I will notice a difference but better safe than sorry right? lol
