Well..at the moment..Intel delivers more performance. That being said..I prefer AMD because everything is unlocked biggrin.gif .960T is a great option..overclocks well..multiplier is unlocked..chance to unlock to six-core..performance is almost as good as 2500K..even better in some areas (i.e. web surfing,Windows apps)My 960T unlocks to a six-core perfectly redface.gif
2500K delivers smoother gaming (a bit here and there) ..you lose bclck overclocking.Kinda boring to OC IMO.
My next chip is going to be a Xeon.

AMD and Intel both make great cpus. I generally go for the best price/performance ratio.

I used AMD exclusively from the K62 through the X2.

But when the conroe was alot faster I got my e6400. I have built AMD rigs for budget systems (before the allendales were released I built my son a X2 3600+)

But currently the 2500K is faster than the x6 AMD so I'd go with intel

Honestly... There are so many factors to consider. Do you plan on running multiple cards? Are you interested in the features a Z77 chipset offers? Keep in mind you can run a 2500k on Z77 if you want. To really tailor this to your needs we need far more information.

i was looking at this barebone kit ( http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2406873 ). while i have heard that these kits can be a ripoff, i am open to buying the parts separately as well (either way i will buy a different psu) it does have the Z77 chipset and i will defiantly buy a motherboard that supports that.

I punched in all those parts into newegg.com minus the power supply and it came to $571.94. So roughly the same price. It seems like a pretty good build. I'm not a fan of MSI but I'm sure the motherboard will get the job done. Maybe someone else has experience with it that can chime in. But yeah if you do go with that definitely get a better power supply. And you'll want a better CPU fan if you're going to overclock. It doesn't include a GPU though. Do you have one already? Or have one in mind?

i was planing to go with a gigabyte motherboard ( http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2406875 ), the only reason i was looking at the msi, is because at the time it was cheaper and the case that comes with the gigabyte is pretty bad.
