E6600 Overclock

Thread Starter
Hey all

First post time

Ive only very very recently been getting into overlclocking So am a complete newbie, despite things ive read, or been told.

I was doing an overclock on my E6600 using Clockgen from windows.

The first time, i managed to get it to 3.2Ghz, increasing it a tiny bit at a time. (Fsb was at 361mhz). I then ran a 3dmark06 without OC'ing my gfx card, and got 600 points more (8600 ish). And after, my cpu was running at 38 degrees C

I wanted to then overclock my gfx card at the same time (7950GX2) And so i did a restart of my pc. I then tried to clock my cpu up to the previous speed of 3.2Ghz, but it wouldnt get past 2.8 without crashing my computer.

I have my coretemp open when i overclock, to monitor the temps of both cores of my cpu, and they normally dont go above 30 when idling (have an evo 98, 92mm akasa fan on that. 2 X 12 cm case fans. 2 X 92 mm exhaust fans, and a pci exhaust fan in addition to my gpu fan. So i really dont think it would be a temperature issue that is cutting my computer out when i overclock.

I did manage to run a 3dmark06 with my gpu overclocked, and my cpu overclocked (only to 2.8Ghz) and achieved a respectable 9460.

But im sure i can get more out of my cpu that even 3.2 Ghz. Anybody have any ideas as to why its cutting out at 2.8 after i previously ran computer at 3.2 for a few hours?

Or any tips as to the best way to overclock the Conroe E6600?

Alex

Once I tried using Easy Tune to overclock my PC for the hell of it. Total crap. Not only do you not get as good of an overclock, you have to wait for it to overclock everytime you reboot.... it is really annoying.
