true, but generally they are alot hotter and louder than 560ti's, that an an overclocked 560ti can perform better than a stock 570

Fanboyism won't get you anywhere. Buy the best bang for the buck - competition is the best thing about capitalism and by ruling out options for no better reason than I don't like them is tantamount to shooting yourself in your own foot.

Look at benchmarks for your favourite games and pick the card that does the best in your price range - AMD or nVidia.

Also for someone who likes "ATi" so much you should know that "ATi" does not exist anymore.

LOL QFT. pick the best performing card for the best price you can. If you pick one company of the other(asus/evga or nvidia/amd or amd/intel) all you are doign is limiting your selections away from possibly a good deal.

An overclocked 480 can perform better then a 570 as well.... 480 has more VRAM and shader processors. Not sure why you would claim the 480 is under the 560ti...

Yeah I just got a GTX 480 and it's a way more powerful card than I need really. I expect it to last me a good long time.

If you want to buy new there is no Radeon card in the same price range with close performance. The closest you could get would be a used 6950 like they say, and even then the GTX 480 is a bit quicker.

So if you want similar performance at $200 for a Radeon you would have to buy used.

The GTX 480 is faster than a 560 ti, stock and when both are overclocked.

If you get a 560 ti 448 then it will be about as quick, but those are going for more than 200$ used..... The GTX 480 comes with a three year warranty, and it's brand new. Just can't beat it for the price.

Edit: I've seen some used 5970's going for around 200$ lately, if you picked up one of those it would make a 6870 seem like garbage....

It's a plain and simple fact that Ati/AMD has always had the best $ to performance crown. They have almost always been the best cards for the money. And you don't want to hear my reasons for not going with them, so I'll leave it there.

Not even close I am by no means an AMD fan boy. I am just comparing my options. I know what the best nvidia card is for my price range, but I wasn't sure which AMD card would be the best around that price for their brand. So then i could compare it to the 480 or maybe a 560 ti from what I have read on here. I am doing exactly that and trying to find the best bang for the buck.

another way to look at this is

if you don't care about powering more than 2 monitor, then you can easily go with any card that you like, and it will play those games just fine at 1080p

in my case, i can only choose ATI / AMD as they are the only ones that offer Eyefinity 6 to power 6 monitors in 1 card.

max on any nVidia card is only 3 monitors

back to the 6870 or 6850 both of those cards are just fine, and they can be found for cheap,

i got 3x 6870 for a tri-fire setup, and it simply beats the latest single 7970 or even crossfire on 7970 due many reasons ***cough***DamnDrivers!***cough***

the 6870 is rock solid, no drivers issues at all, and it can OC plenty

check out the 6850/6870 owners club thread http://www.overclock.net/t/850691/official-amd-radeon-hd-6850-6870-owners-thread/0_50

Two of the exact same question in the same forum at the same time?! headscratch.gif

This thread is about the exact same topic, so most of the posts people have made will also apply to you, but their a bit more focused than this thread.

i had the sapphire 1GB 6870 and i was happy with it for the most part. it ran everything i wanted it to. I sold it off though and decided to get a used GTX 570 SC because the performance is a bit better and i fold on it, something which AMD / ATI cards just don't do as well at. All the suggestions are good thus far but if you are going to get the AMD card, i dont think you will be disappointed with the 6870.
