[Gamespy] Steam Terms of Service Now Let Banned Gamers Play - Page 3

My old account is VAC banned(long story), and I never was blocked from playing my games. Had my HL2 and HL2:EP1 and used to log into that account to play them a lot.

Seems to go with my assessment of the article.

On the one hand it details how Steam are not locking people out of their games for bans, then goes on to say how all people need to do to get everything back is show proof of their ownership of said account.
That last part however, has nothing to do with cheating and being banned for it, it's to do with suspected hacking on your account.
Unless all you really need to do to get your account unbanned for cheating is just show them proof of ID? I highly doubt it......

VAC bans which are bans for actually cheating, and total Steam account bans were never the same thing in the first place were they?

As long as it stops online play this is a step in the right direction. Cheating online shouldn't stop you from playing singleplayer games. Though I do fully support getting locked out of every single online game on the account. There has to be consequences.

Well that is what I think anyway, I don't see why someone should lose their money just because they cheated in multiplayer.

You say you don't see why someone should lose their money just because they cheated in multiplayer, but if you were to only let people play in offline mode, they would still be losing their money on games that only have multiplayer options. unless you were to play against bots, but there's only so long you can do that for until you get bored

Well then they shouldn't cheat lol. Most games with multiplayer have a single player mode as well. At the moment I can only think of two games with multiplayer only (or single player with bots that you are talking about) and one of them is free. I'm not saying if they get caught once they should get their account permanently closed to offline mode only, just suspended for a few weeks the three times if they cheat and then permanently closed to online mode. If they carry on cheating after getting their accounts suspended three times in multiplayer only games then they deserve to get their accounts closed to offline mode only.

I agree with you except I don't believe in a three strikes rule at all. Three is too much. Caught cheating just once and you should lose your entire online catalog. That alone should be enough of a deterrent to put people off. Cheating in online games is a major deal and will put people off buying it. That's damaing for the company and damaging to the community (since there's less people playing).

The key thing is dealing with false positives in a quick, fair and compensated manor. If I were banned from Steam for cheating when I hadn't been I'd want compensation. Money off my next purchase or something.

I think I approve of this change. Now they just need to make Steam continue downloading games while you're playing another game, then we're set!

Guys this doesn't really apply to cheating in online games. It applies to people who get their accounts banned entirely, which you don't get hacking in CSS. That just gets you VAC banned.

This, you can still play CSS if your VAC banned.

As my college friends always said...

If you're not cheating, you're not trying hard enough.
