How? you don't own the games on steam.
You are only using their service, which they can deny you if they want to.

Ehhh... not a smart move. The cheaters will find a way to get back online and bypass VAC/PB/etc.

Cheaters never did get fully banned from games on Steam. They were always allowed to play the game, just not on a secure server.

They only disabled accounts for people who hacked steam or did some kind of fraud.

I do think cheaters should be allowed to play on nonVac servers, but still a good move by valve.

I think if they are caught red handed cheating in BF3 they should have to mail one of there fingers to them in a box first before they are unbanned.

I'll say it again, cheating gets you punkbuster or VAC banned, and does not get your steam account banned.

I've actually had an account banned- someone gifted me a game on steam, which I accepted. It then turned out they used a stolen credit card or something, so steam banned my account. When I tried to get it back, they told me they needed a scan of a CD key from a game case, but the only game I had I bought online. So my account was left disabled and there wasn't anything I could do.

If I had a lot of games, that would have been a pretty bad scenario. At least under this new system, I would have been able to play GTA4 or skyrim if I had games like that, without having to repurchase them.

I have a banned Steam account with a good bit of games on it thumb.gif Paired with relatively bad support towards those who are account banned for wrongful reasons. One reason I strongly dislike this new form of DRM, and refuse to buy most games. I have a new steam account but only ever buy decent games on sale that are like $5. Rarely will I buy any full priced or even mostly full priced games anymore for PC, aside from games like Diablo 3 that I'll be getting but that's one of the few and far between. And I don't game too much anymore anyways, but usually when I do I'll go with console gaming over PC anytime now (when applicable at least, like that of Diablo 3).

I actually do not like this.  Accidental bannings are an issue... if you completely believe in them that is, but not punishing douchebags equates to more douchebaggery.

Do not want.

Yes but there might be flaw if you caught being a false cheater or etc. But that's only when you play Valve games with Anti-Cheat -> Steam. If you play other non-valve games, they are on their own to deal with cheaters.

Cheating bans are not the same as account bans and the writer of the article has little idea what they are talking about.

Bans for cheating stopped you playing online and didn't lock you out of your account.

Bansdue to suspected hacked steam accounts and the like were what locked you out.

The article would have you believe that simply giving details that you are the owner of your account will lift a cheating ban, but that's not the case at all.

It's not like Valve has the power to lock you out of your account for cheating in games that dont use Steamworks anyway is it?
