A problem after overclocking, USB port disconnects for 1-2 seconds then reconnects.

Hello.

A week ago I got myself a Corsair H80 water cooler (Which is pretty good actually). After getting it I decided to overclock my AMD X6 1055T processor to 3.7 GHz. The CPU voltage is at 1.4625V according to bios and the DRAM voltage at 1.65V. All the other settings are on default.

After overclocking I've been having problems with my usb wlan adapter sometimes disconnecting for a couple of seconds and then it reconnects. Everytime it happens there's the sound from windows that comes everytime there's a new USB device plugged in. It's annoying when it happens during a multiplayer game.

I haven't tried any other USB device on the same port yet, but I doubt it's the wlan adapter that's at fault here. Since it started right after the overclock. I checked the BIOS for any power saving features but couldn't find any relevant stuff.

The motherboard is an Asus M4A89GTD PRO.

Should have gone with a good air cooler! The Hxx Series closed loop coolers are mediocre, BUT will do the job.

Make sure you do NOT have a 1397 connection plugged into a usb hub on the motherboard. Make sure the mother board connectors and Q-connector are connected properly. I had this same issue 2 years ago. The over clocking thing seems like a coincidence.

How did you do your overclock, and have you done anything to check stability? Also, You should fill out your "Sig Rig" details so that we can see what hardware your using. 1.4625Vcore is a little high but shouldn't cause any damage. 1.65v for the DRAM could be good or bad depending on the set up RAM in question. Just for giggles have you made sure the Driver's for the WLAN and the USB ports are up to date? what are your USB settings in the BIOS?

The last few ASUS board's I have worked with, including my 3 current boards suffered the same problem after an unstable OC, The USB ports turn off and on over and over again. Each time as soon as I was able to find a stable OC via prime95 testing the USB ports stopped having fits.

I was having some system instability, BSODs and such with lower voltages. The 1.4625 is the one that I haven't had any crashes with. I've used Prime95 always for quick testing for the stability, <1 hour or so. I know it's not enough, and should do a full test with it.

For the overclocking, I used this as a reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5a7AxZJ7tWc
Tried 4 GHz first but it weren't that stable as on the video, so I backed down to 3.7 GHz.

The wlan adapter gets its drivers from windows update. But just incase, I downloaded appropriate drivers from the publishers site but didn't help.

I changed the port where the wlan adapter was and so far haven't had any disconnects. Let's see if it holds out on the long run.

With any luck it was just a bad port on the mobo:) For stability I use Prime95 on "blend" and set it to use 85-90% available ram. After about 18 hour's solid it should have ran all FFT's ensuring maximum stability for the system.
Driver's are always a good easy place to start, even if windows update handle's the driver's:) All you need to do now is check for full stability and then OC the GPU if you have not and your set thumb.gif
