[YT] Crysis 3 gameplay trailer - Page 12

Thanks for the constructive post Alatar. While I do agree that the mechanics changed, there are some critical game mechanics that went rather well in MP. For instance, due to the combined powers, you could jump and cloak at the same time, avoiding death, whereas in C1, you could use only one power at a time. MP in C2 is still at the end of the rope, and will stay there forever due to lack of support, but I loved it, and still play it today, even if it's just with 100 players.

@TheBirdman74
Appears to me, you are putting on the tough guy act, I am a PC gamer as much as the next user on OCN.

I'm actually one of the people who boycotted crysis 2 until crytek managed to get out the DX11 patch and the high res textures patch. DX11 was something that we we're actually promised before launch but due to time constraints (probably EA's fault) crytek couldn't implement it in the game to please PC gamers. C2's gfx on launch were clearly worse than C1, and even after the patch the games only trade blows depending on what you're comparing.
I guess it's just that some of us find shipping a sequel to the game that was the unchallenged gfx king of PC games for years with worse graphics to be something that's not ok. If you were a fan of Crysis 1 because of the graphics (admit it, a lot of us were), C2 felt like a slap in the face.
Another thing people aren't satisfied with is the change in gameplay mechanics coming from C1 to C2. It's not a miracle though, Cevat (I think it was Cevat?) even said that he and some other big guns at crytek really liked CoD so the game being more linear and CoDish was actually more than just an attempt to make the game fit better on consoles. It was a direction they took willingly.
Now for the guys that loved the open environments of crysis 1, vehicles etc. Crysis 2's marketing of saying the game would give you lots of different ways of approaching enemies, essentially just being crysis 1 in NY, coupled with how the game in the actually turned out must have felt like a big middle finger straight from crytek.
Also dumbing down the nanosuit didn't help either. We had much less options in Crysis 2 than we did in the first. Utilizing the suit wasn't nearly as effective either making it seem more like a gimmick and not even fitting the game properly.
And then there's also the multiplayer. I don't think anyone can deny that it's a straight rip-off from CoD. Some of us actually liked the multi in the original game, especially Crysis wars was good. I also had so much fun with the MP in the original in LAN parties with friends, the MP in the second installment just felt bad, boring, and it got old in like 30 minutes if you had played any generic fps MP in the last 5 years.
It's not that Crysis 2 wasn't an OK game or even a good game. What people are mad about is that Crysis 2 isn't really crysis. All the main selling points of the original have been thrown out of the window and replaced with something else. While the game still looks gorgeous, it's just a shadow compared to the leap ahead that the original gave us and what crysis 1 is actually remembered for. Crytek should never have called it crysis and I'm sure the game would have been revieved much better.

Sorry buy I disagree with almost everything you said there. Well, not everything. I'm sure what you are saying is a big reason why a lot of people on here whine about Crysis 2 but the other stuff is just not true IMO. The graphics are clearly better than the original to my eyes. Also, the suit is much more logical and easy to use in C2 than C1. Combining speed and strength does take a way some customization but it really streamlines the controls and makes you a far more efficient hunter (for instance uncloak-shoot-cloak without giving away your position is far easier and quicker in C2 than C1).

But, to each his own. I personally loved both games and can't wait to play the third one. Anybody is free to disagree with me...

Looks good, played Crysis 2 on my rig when I had it, will get Crysis 3 for PS3 smile.gif It's a shame the people on this forum are such whiney self-entitled babies, but games sales don't lie and I also will be voting with my wallet smile.gif

I totally agree, I think the streamlining of the powers was for the better. It made it much easier to have those 'crysis moment's in gameplay.

And yeah again technically Crysis 2 after the dx11 patch is on a whole new level compared to Crysis 1. I think vanilla Crysis 2 is comprable graphically to C1. Some parts look worse and some look much better. People I think need to go back to C1 though. It's not as impressive as it once was without mods.

The Global Illumination system in Crysis 2 in particular is just really impressive.

This isn't Crysis 3. This is Crysis 2.5. I'm sure they were saying Crysis was a trilogy. There is no mention of this being the last one.

depends on what parts of the game you're comparing. Some thing C2 does better than C1 and the opposite is also true. I think that's a fair. What most of the hatred comes from is C2 shipping with those low res textures etc. At that point I would actually go as far as saying that C1 looked noticeable better than C2 if simply because of the textures. Still I guess this is somewhat opinion based.

Well yeah this is again a matter of opinion and what I was trying to say (maybe dumbed down was too harsh) that streamlining the suit controls is what a lot of people didn't like. Having more modes and all of them being separated from each other also brings in a gameplay element. You had to choose more carefully what mode to use in C1 and I think some of the people here liked that. The use each mode had was also clearer in C1 than it was in C2 with the combined functionalities.

Wow, I didn't know Crytek's mission statement was to "push PC gaming forward"? I thought it was to make money by creating a sought after product...
Ye because crysis 2 with all the patches and dx11 features on is so easy to run.........
It doesn't push tech enough rolleyes.gif
The fact that crysis 1 without mod's still runs alot worse on newer rigs while not looking as good graphically as some newer games only means it was badly coded not that it was "the best graphics ever 111111rer212322!!!!"

wink.gif I'm glad you caught that.

We'll have more original ideas hit when the next batch of consoles too. It might a while though, people will go with trusted franchises first.
