The Samsung RAM that everyone drools about...

Hey memory people smile.gif!

I'm upgrading my rig to Ivy here in the next couple days, and I've been out of the memory scene for a bit. I see all the raves about these awesome 30nm sticks, can someone confirm these are the right ones?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147096

I expected them to cost a little more, so I just wanted to double check. I need ~16GB for what I do, so given that, do you guys still recommend these modules for a new high-end build?

Thanks!

Those look like the ones, but they are out of stock.

I have one set (8GB) in my Sandy Bridge rig, and they run great! 1600MHz, 8-8-8-21,1T at 1.5V.

Just get two of these for $47.98 total: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147094

It's a penny cheaper for the exact same thing.
Once again...

Ah, those are the same eh? I would still need 16GB though, but I could always just grab 4x of those if the 8GB sticks aren't in stock when I order.

Thanks for the heads up! thumb.gif

Or go Amazon for $1.70 cheaper per 4gb stick http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronics-Extreme-MV-3V4G3-US/dp/B0059200FY/

Anyone know why a single 4gb stick is ~$23, but 2x 4gb kit is $100+ on Amazon? Are there compatibility issues ordering 16gb in single 4gb sticks??

edit- Wait, there are 2 version of this ram. MV-3V2G3D and MV-3V4G3. The 3V2 vs 3V4 have differing power consumption levels (1.36w vs 1.65w), but both have similar voltage specifications. I'm a bit confused.

Think the 3V2 is single sided while the 3V4 is double sided.

Not sure how much that would affect overclocks.

In theory, shouldn't single sided be better? A 4gb single sided is better than a 4gb double sided, right?

There are no compatibility issues in individual sticks.

There is probably a perception of kits being different, hence the kits sell out and prices rise with demand.

The single sided sticks in question are 2GiB, not 4.

Also, for them to make a singled sided 4GiB stick, different ICs would need to be used, and they would likely have much inferior OCing capabilities.
