In every review I've seen they say it's about 3mm.

Which is good if you like a bit of LOD and it's fixable if you like as little LOD as possible (tapefix can help without damaging tracking quality).

I did read after posting the question on a review that it starts at 400DPI. I'll say when it comes here.
Is there any downside at having drivers installed? Nothing weird as Logitech drivers used to be or different "feeling" of the mouse as Razer drivers used to provide? Do the changes you make to the mouse config stick?
Mine wasn't set at 400 DPI because i had to install the software to change it. Otherwise i would've skipped the software and kept the windows drivers. Because i installed the drivers immediately i can't say if there's a difference, but with software installed the sensor works flawlessly.

As i said, this mouse is not the best for on the fly usage since there is no option to set another dpi rather than defaulted 800.
Even the easyshift feature doesn't have dpi changer aka dpi up and dpi down

but overall this mouse is very solid performancer and I like the combonation of the good mid ergo shape, low weight and the good scrollwheel.

What, yes it does. If anything, it has the best DPI changing system because there's no way you can misclick, and it's easier to change (if you like to swap) if you bind it to easyshift+right mouseclick.

Razer / Zowie solution are far better and you never misclick or something, just pick the mouse, turn it around and press it.
they talking about changing dpi without the need to install the software - on the fly.

Install software - change DPI settings - uninstall or forget about it. It does nothing else. Why do you oppose using the software? BTW you can't misclick easy shift unless you're a monkey. And it's easier than picking the mouse up and pressing a button really hard for it to register a DPI change. BTW razer needs software if you want to fine tune what your DPI settings are.

Easyshift+ has its ups and downs. There's not enough buttons on the mouse to replace one with DPI toggle. I need both side buttons (back-forward) for internet and the scroll wheel button for Autocad and 3D Max. If you replace one of those with Easyshift then you can create some macros, but it will take time to get used to. Of course Savu has some significant advantages over the AM which outweigh this minor drawback.

This is what I have set for buttons. easyshift+mousebutton 3 is probably best for DPI toggle for me. And I think easyshift+mouse 1 is a good compromise for 'forward' button. Everything else is pretty good.

I tested the mouse for some days now. It's a good mouse, good for "paw" grip, but to me AM is in any way better.

Shape of the AM just flows into the hand, while Savu feels artificial.

The sandpaper sides of the Savu aren't really that great for grip, they are good for a tighter grip, but if you have the fingers relaxed, no grip. Strangeley the AM with rubber sides has for me a really good grip, also with relaxed fingers and feels good, unlike the Savu sandpaper.

I can fully palm the AM and it feels really good. The Savu has the middle finger longer than the right button and I can't stand this.
The soft rubber cable of AM is better, feels almost like wireless.

If only the AM had the buttons and wheel as good and as silent as Savu.

The right side of the Savu is actually better fot the thumb. Answer is Roccat Lua, it has both sides like Savu's right side, but it has no sidebuttons, so it's not an option for me.
