None of those lawsuits you cited involved a thief who sued and won, and none of those cases involved
Quote:
the thief who sued and won against the homeowner because he slipped on the ice outside of the house after robbing it.
as you stated.

Wait, what?

I just read that article, and there's nothing in it that supports your claim of:

Yes, this guy tried to sue the couple, but he was convicted of kidnapping and other charges in May 2010. He's currently in an Adams County, Colo., lockup facing murder charges in connection with the killing of Michael Curtis, the Colorado man.

The couple is asking the judge to dismiss the suit. Robert E. Keeshan, an attorney for the Rowleys, denies there was a contract and says that even if there had been, it wouldn't be legally binding because their consent would have been given under duress, there was no specified price, and hiding a fugitive is illegal.

So, how did he sue and win?

Geesh..Hold on..I'm still looking for it. I read it about years ago. If I remember correctly it had to do with ice on the front steps and the homeowners responsibility to de-ice the walkway.

edit - and by won I think (and this is just from dusty memory) it was something like the insurance company settled. The whole point of those links was to show the point I'm trying to make of people being sue happy and not taking personal responsibility.

as you said or not? I don't disagree that their are frivolous lawsuits, but that wasn't your original point. Own up to it.

I just said I'm still looking because I can't even remember where I read it at. But anyways forget that one. As for "owning it" that WASN'T my point it was an example of my point which if you read it was and I quote "But I'm just tired of this lazy, blame everyone else state of society we seem to be lately."

Point taken, but frivolous lawsuits have been a part of life since lawsuits came about... You said that people were winning frivolous lawsuits against those that they robbed and I don't think that's been proven yet...

Not on that case in particular, but there have been instances of criminals winning money from victims. One such case was when a guy fell through a skylight and sued the family for (10)K?. There are some really crazy cases out there which can be Bing'd or Googled pretty easy. (i.e. The Winnebago cruise control case myth) We live in a very litigious society now, and with SO many cases like Apple vs Google vs Microsoft vs Whoever is next, it lends the perspective to others to sue at a drop of a hat. Then you have some cases that are "hyped" which add more fire to "sue happy bowling for dollars people". Common sense is not so common anymore.

It gets rediculous. Take the one that just happened here. A woman sued her doctor because she didn't have an abortion and her son was born mentally handicapped. She won something like 2 million or so.
