Question about voltage drops

Thread Starter
I'm a little clueless about this (username suits me).

I've heard conflicting information about voltage drops on the +3.3v, 5v and 12v rails.

Some people say their voltage especially on the 3.3v rail is rock solid and shouldn't change, mine drops a bit on load.

Can someone once and for all let me know if it's normal, or could possibly show me their results.

I have a corsair hx1000, and when I run prime my 3.3v drops from 3.33 to 3.31. I have attached a screenshot and circled the voltage drop

Can someone test using hwmonitor to see if their 3.3v rail drops under load?

My 5v rail also changes, should it?

Even when not under load my 3v and 5v rail voltages fluctuate, I'm worried as others have told me they shouldn't fluctuate at all.

I've noticed my 12v volts don't change at all however even under load.

If voltage fluctuation and drops under load is normal, am I within "normal" drops going from 3.34 to 3.31

Thanks in advance for any advice.

First of all, software is worthless for voltage monitoring as it can be highly inaccurate. Now with that out of the way, it is perfectly normal for voltage to fluctuate slightly from idle to load conditions, and the values you gave are just fine.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm aware that software can be inaccurate, but was just concerned as other people who were using the same software to monitor voltages were not getting any fluctuations under load on 12v 5v and 3.3v, and they emphasized that the 3.3v rail especially shouldn't change.

Thanks for your help though

I agree with bR0ken.

That is less then 1% variation.

Who is this "they"?

On a forum I post on.

I've also been googling and came across a thread where jonnyGURU posted this

Unless I've totally misunderstood I've taken it that regardless of whether the voltage drop on the +3.3v rail is within spec, it's not "normal" for it to drop under load

The thread is here http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=935794, yes it's a very old thread, but I assume the principals still apply.

The op is getting a similar drop to me, yet jonnyguru who is well respected when it comes to psus says it's not "normal"
