[Vortez] GTX680 Quad SLI vs HD7970 Quad CrossfireX Review

If you happen to have around £2k laying around to buy these mammoth GPU setups with change leftover for PSU to run them, you will certainly have the bragging rights to put anyone in their place. If however you do not have large multiple screens to run and a heavily overclocked CPU to feed them then I fear many will be sniggering behind you back because what four graphics cards can do, the smart money would be spent on a Crossfire/SLI setup which uses just two GPU's and as we have shown today often performs better.

Ay, caramba!! redface.gif looks like AMD is better for multi GPU scaling and Nvidia for single!!

Hasn't AMD had better scaling for awhile now?

edit: I hate their graphs

Nope, most of Nvidia's GPUs scale extremely well

Some of those are just pitiful. The first BF3 bench where 2 7970s>4 680s made me cringe a bit.

This has to be the worst GPU comparison I've ever read.

So I would be better off with 3x 3gb 7970s than 3x 4gb 680s for 5760 x 1080 and 1080p?

If you have to do it now, 7970s, especially for the vram. If you have time to spare Nvidia will fix the scaling issue if yer partial to green.

This is a classic:

http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/gtx680_quad_sli_vs_hd7970_quad_crossfirex,15.html

So 4x 7970's in every chart is at the mid to bottom in performance yet in the "overall" performance it is the highest. lol these guys don't have a clue what they are doing.

They are using old drivers.....doh.gif

Who cares if the new ones don't use pcie3.0, they will offer better performance because of they are updated....../sigh. Pcie2.0 won't bottleneck the cards more than the old set of drivers.

This seems very sketchy. They should have used the most up to date drivers for both, not just one. There can be HUGE performance increases with new drivers, especially when running more than 2 cards.

This review couldn't get any more fail. Old drivers, half the tests are 1080P, wrong numbers and labels on charts. Good stuff. wink.gif
