Cryengine 3 is better then every way then Cryengine 2. Just because it was hard to run doesn't make it a great engine. Crysis 1 was pretty badly optimized for PC.

CryEngine 3 is Better then 2 but the one used in Crysis 2 is not as good as the once in Crysis 1. Basically in Crysis 1 Cryengine 2 was used to its max with everything it had. In Crysis 2 they did not use the engine to the fullest. I just installed Crysis 1 for fun and still looks much better to me. even when i look close at objects i see much better textures then Crysis 2. You have to give it to Crysis 2 for lightning and Vivid colors. In reality Crysis 2 with DX11 looks better to the eye but Crysis 1 still looks more realistic.

Exactly , and this is one of my biggest gripes with Crysis 2 , i agree that some visuals like lightning , bokeh and such look better than in Crysis 1 but first one still takes the crown IMO.
There are some moments in in Crysis 2 which look absolutely amazing but overall Crysis 1 was better , it's kinds hard to compare directly due to different nature of those games.
One is huge open maps with emphasis on reality while other one is more cinematic and it shines in different aspects.
Overall it's just sad for me when i think what Crysis 2 could have been had it stick to being PC exclusive and not compromised the game for consoles , just imagine best parts of both games combined , sounds epic doesn't it ?
Pity Crytek got bent over by EA and sold their soul to consoles wink.gif

Pay attention, he says this time around, they are going to be relying less on techincal elements.

this means to me, Bloom, Blur, and all the cheap effects prevalent in console games.

this game won't be better than Crysis 1 technically.

Main reason people think Cry 2 looks better than 1 is cause of the overuse of bloom and color saturation. take that out and the textures

Would be nice if Crytek started by optimising their games

Crytek's games are horrifically optimised and chew through resources like there's no tomorrow simply because the pipeline isn't efficient enough to process and delegate the data.

The main reason Crysis 1 crippled systems (and still pushes new hardware) isn't merely because of raw poly count, textures and post processing. Its mainly because the engine runs like a dogs turd. Its horrific.

In saying that, Crysis 1 was definitely the best looking game at the time and is probably still up there with Metro 2033 at the top (I personally think Metro is sexier......but Metro is also a poorly optimised game)

So I guess my one main wish for Crysis 3 is an optimised game. It should cripple my system because of the sheer visual beauty and poly count etc. not because Crytek suck monkey balls at coding

Textures and object detail are one area where Crysis 2 is way better then Crysis 1. Honestly I feel like we're not even playing the same game. Like it's not even close. The beach areas in Crysis 1 are so flat looking nowadays.

Also the global illumination system in Crysis 2 is the most impressive I've ever seen and Crysis 2 is still the only game in the world to make use of Bokeh DoF. The only other game/tech demo that uses this is the Samaritin tech demo.

If they want that, that should stay off of consoles.

If they're already boasting about this, then it's fairly obvious that they'll use DX11.1 ...

After taking a look at the Cryengine 3.4 SDK, I have to agree. Crysis 3 will indeed be the best looking title of 2013, far surpassing the battlefield 3 engine.

Thats the think. Best looking to me is less impressive then more realistic. I like how BF3 looks.

Am I the only one who thinks Cryengine 3.4 SDK doesn't have impressive graphics as Crysis?
