Noob question with power cords

Thread Starter
I just bought a gtx 560 and it requires 4 power connections. I had a total of 5 which right now all I have on is the ssd and the card. so i was wondering if its okay to connect white with white? or does the power connectors need to be black + white?
How exactly does your 560 need 4 power connectors? Do you mean it requires 4 molex plugs for the molex to PCI-E adapters? Pictures may help.

This is true. I got my friend a 560 Ti 448 core and it only required 2 PCI-E power. Maybe he has SLI?

its 480W and im not sure how to check, its not on the manual i have to open it and check it.

Ah, the color shouldn't matter. Chances are the ones on your power supply are black and the adapters that came with your card are white. Is that correct?

If you can check the model of your power supply, we can see exactly what connections it has. It should be on the outside of the unit. You can upload any pictures if you aren't sure.

Yes it requires four molex plugs, I thought all those molex plugs had to be connected to the black ones. The only downside now is that I don't got my fan on door running, 1tb HDD, and cd drive. So all I got connected to those molex are an SSD and the graphics card. I just wanted to know if that's okay.

Is it a quality 480W PSU? I have to ask for safety of your graphics card.

I asked about the type of power supply so we could identify the type of connections it has. With that information we might be able to solve your issue much faster and with more clarity than just telling you white and black.

Your power supply may even have the type of connections needed, in that case you would not need to use the supplied molex "Y" adapter. That Y adapter is just there for power supplies that do not have pci (6 or 8 pin) connections.
