Noob question with power cords - Page 2

by the sounds of it no. if you are using almost all your cables plugged in and have no pci-e cables on the psu it sounds low end.. you need more info on your power supply. just because it is a 480w dont mean it will actually put enough out.
I agree with the other posters. Unless we know what kind of PSU (power supply) you have, it sounds like it might be a hazard with the rest of the system that high end.

I will provide some pics and name of psu tommorow.

So, you guys are saying that I don't need to use those Y cables? cause I think I do have some empty connections of these.

http://kablammo.strongerthandeath.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/six-pin.JPG

edit: i just opened it up and it doesn't have any kind of sticker or name, the only thing it has is QC 115v and In my case I have to use all the molar connections because it doesn't have the pci e 6pin connectors

on the page of the computer i bought it just tells me it has 480w psu and nothing else.

sounds like a generic one that comes with a case or that you would find in an e machine. i would suggest upgrading it because if it pops it will most likely take other stuff with it. hate to see you lose a good video card, or all your info on your hard drives.

what do you recommend for power supply? I have this motherboard. Can I use any watt number like 650+ or is there a limit for specific mobo's?

List your entire system with:

Mobo
CPU
GPU - SLI/CFX?
No. of HDDs
No. of SSDs
No. of RAM sticks
No. of fans

Then we can tell you how much wattage you require smile.gif

All in all that system uses 425W under load, which means, any of these PSUs would do just fine:

i would recommend a good antec or ocz power supply with 600-700w, that way when or if you upgrade in the future you know you will have plenty of power.
