I need monitor advice!

Hello everyone!

Currently I own a 27" Acer S273HL [ http://bit.ly/InEuwz ] which I've owned for a year now. At first I really liked the monitor, and in many aspects still do today, however there are a things I don't love. 1) Though I specifically looked for a 27 inch monitor when I bought it, it's just much too big for me. I play Team Fortress 2 competitively and I need something smaller, probably 23"-24". 2) The color seems off and the picture quality is meh. Recently I held a LAN party and sitting next to my friend with a 20" Viewsonic made me almost break out in tears-- his image looked so much better than mine... that's right a 20" Viewsonic. 3) The last reason I'm starting to hesitate about this monitor is the fact that Eyefinity is slowly seducing me. I think it'd be absolutely awesome.

The issue is that I'm totally broke. I honestly have like $30 to spend. I'd be very willing to sell my monitor if I knew I was getting a good new one that would server me well. How much would I get out of it, I'm not sure. I bought it new for like $300 last year and it has little to no scuffs or bruises. Shipping it out would also be a pain in the ass.

Anyways, I have a few questions for everyone. Please feel free to state your opinion on any of these:

1. Is it worth it to sell my 27" Acer S273HL to get a nicer smaller monitor? What would you do if you were in my situation. The fact of the matter is, I'm not totally unhappy, I'd just like something a little nicer and would be willing to sacrifice screen size.

2. What monitor would you get? I think I'd get around $200ish for my monitor so i'd have to be that or lower. Also I'd like it to be somewhat nice looking and have a smallish bezel in case I decide to do Eyefinity (see below). No lower than 22" no higher than 25".

3. Eyefinity looks awesome and eventually I'd get enough money to buy two more monitors. But zoom out for a minute-- is this whole ordeal ridiculous just to get Eyefinity eventually?

I'd really appreciate your input on this. Thanks so much,

xanadu

1) I think 22-24" is the perfect size. If you gotta physically turn your head to see what's going on on the monitor it's too big lol. If you can get a good deal for your current monitor you should go for it.
2) I like samsungs, the new led lcds look rather snappy, thin bezels too, but would definately want one at least 100hz.
3) I have Nvidia so I know nothing about eyefinity.

Above all the most important part of your setup is that it should make you happy.

The grass is always greener on the other side.

I sold my 27" (1080p) LG, 24" Samsung 245BW (<3 1200p) and a 23" Asus 1080p monitor to get 3 matching displays.

I picked up 3 Dell u2312hm's (23"). All I can tell you now is that having 3 matching monitors is cool, and pleases my inner OCD, but I still miss the 27". I'll likely sell one of these and get a 27" 120hz display soon.

And eyefinity looks great on paper, but in the end, I don't use it. I vote for keeping your 27".

As an aside, having 2 HDMI inputs on a monitor (like yours has) is fairly rare, and a feature I would adore.

1. Since you said that you are totally broke, I would keep the monitor if I were you. Then you can change it to something better when you have more money. If the color seems to be off, you can calibrate it. There are some websites that have custom color profile that you can download or color settings that you can adjust to make the colors look better.

2. I would save a bit more to get a Dell U2312HM. I have a U2412M and it is a good monitor. You will love the color reproduction and won't notice ghosting or input lag. Downside is that it doesn't have any HDMI connection.

3. Do you really need eyefinity? Want and need are two totally different things.

I vote to keep your 27".

After a few days of thinking, I'm going to keep it. Like many nerds, I go through phases where I see something and I really really want it. After sleeping on it I realize that it's not worth it for me to spend that much money on a new monitor given how much I play and how serious I am. Thanks everyone for the advice.
