I've said this in similar threads and I'll say it here. It really depends on what you want out of your PC.

If you are doing heavily multi-threaded tasks like video encoding, or are planning to run 3 or more video cards, 2011 is the best choice. The drawbacks to 2011 is that the X79 chipset has been neutered by Intel because they couldn't get SAS 6.0 to work (6 SATA/SAS 6.0 ports are disabled on the chipset), doesn't have USB 3.0 integrated, shows minimal improvement with quad channel ram outside of server type functions and is more expensive. I honestly tfeel the X79 chipset was a let-down.

If you use your PC for multimedia, general computing and are gaming with only 1 or 2 video cards, 1155 with the Z77 chipset just makes sense. The Z77 chipset is the latest chipset from Intel which does have USB 3.0 integrated, has Lucid MVP for enhanced gaming by utilizing the integrated video and allowing it to work with a dedicated video, and allows the use of integrated video of SB and IB (SB-E has no integrated GPU) to assist in video encoding for multimedia applications.

I went with 2011 and should have gone instead with 1155 IMO.

Via an LSI SAS2308 chip...

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/22874/asrock_turn_dial_to_11_with_x79_extreme11_motherboard/index.html
Quote:
The board comes with two GEN3 PLX 8747 chips allowing for four way setups to run at x16 / x16 / x16 / x16 along with an LSI SAS2308 chip offering us eight SAS ports or eight SATA3 ports which are only part of the 14 total SATA ports on offer with 10 of them being SATA3.

ECS has a board with the SAS ports enabled and set up as SATA 6.0, but they are finicky and do not support all devices.

http://www.techpowerup.com/158917/ECS-Enables-X79-Driven-SAS-Ports-on-its-X79R-AX-Motherboard.html
Quote:
So ECS won't guarantee reliable performance on those SAS ports, but it let users have them anyway, to use them at their own risk. Hence, these ports are disabled in the BIOS, but very much can be enabled, drivers installed, and used.

Their supported motherboard list seems pretty dated. They only have X58 motherboards even listed!

http://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail/supportnotes/supportnote/?sid=3947&pid=4042&os=win&isSDK=0&snid=9712

Their USB 3.0 facts section states the Renesas chip (made by NEC) is supported, provided you have an updated firmware for the Renesas chip:
http://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/detail/faqs/?sid=3947&pid=4042&os=win

And in this forum, members reported it working with X79 platforms:
http://resolume.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9178&p=35630

And last, here is someone who seems to have tested the unit on various hardware:
http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/124/878558
Quote:
I've used/tested the Intensity Shuttle on various different hardware. The main problem I came accross was when using any USB 3.0 controller other than the NEC/Renesas (I've even tried the Fresco Logic FL1009 and it failed miserably).

Also power saving technologies can prevent the Shuttle from working. On Intel P67, Z68 and X79, enhanced 'C' states (C3/C6/C7) must be disabled. On AMD 890/990FX, with a Phenom II CPU, C1E must be disabled, with an FX CPU it can be left enabled. Lastly, PCIe link power saving must be disabled in the Windows 7 power options.

I don't claim to be an expert by any means, but according to these benchmarks the 3770 supersedes the 3820 in most benchmarks here.

Now I understand that these test are at clockspeeds. Overclocked may have different results. Nevertheless, here's two cents.
