Upgrades

Looking to upgrade my 5770. I want something powerful but that doesn't melt or get way too hot (aka my 4870 X2). When I built my first pc, in 2007 I was using a 8800GT so I really don't know Nvidia's lineup that well anymore. Also, how well does AMD and Nvidia mix together. Like I mentioned I built my first machine with a Q6600 and a 8800GT in 2007 and sold it to my friend and built my current machine in 2009-2010.

what is your budget?

Most likely if you aren't bothered with grabbing used cards there is quite a selection of both parties on the OCN marketplace right now.
Small wonder.

I was hoping nothing over 350. 400 would be the deadline.

EDIT: I would prefer something that was stronger than the 4870 X2 because mine fried, so I bought a 5770. So basically im looking for double the performance or more.

HD4870x2 is about 78% faster than a HD5770 at 1920x1200, according to Techpowerup.

For doubling the performance of a HD5770 at 1920x1200, I suggest a HD6950 2GB (cheaper at ~US$230) or a HD7870 2GB (more expensive at ~US$350 and it will be 'noticeably' cooler, say around 10C lower at load, than a 6950).
