Help overclocking FX8150 with MSI BIOS

Thread Starter
Hello, I'd really like some help with my own rig. My spec are fx8150 BD standard everything as far as settings.
16gb g.skill ddr3 1600
MSI 890fxa-gd70
bios 1.14

I have tried booting in every setting from many videos and guides i can find and I simply cannot get it to boot, funtion or sometimes POST into any settings other than stock cpu settings. I know a little bit about overclocking and this is my 3rd AMD cpu and ive tried to overclock each one i've owed and I can never get it to run at all with anything beyond stock settings.

I'm looking to run 4.4ghz stable with my 8150 and I have the corsair H80 liquid cooler which is probably overkill for stock cpu settings.
Also i'm not worried about temps too much I have invested in nice fans and try to keep the room cold.
If anyone is familiar with msi bios and getting this chip to run at 4.4ghz that could help, I'll mail you a donut and thank you on here!

Things ive tried (some)

4.4ghz with x22, 200fsb, 1.6v dram, 1.45 vcore 1.35 vdd vcore -doesnt even POST-
4.4ghz with x21, 210fsb, 1.44vcore autovdd vcore -hangs on windows startup-
4.4ghz with x22.5 200fsb, 1.45vcore autovdd core -BSOD during windows startup-

I just dont understand I can't boot and run it at all without leaving it at stock settings, am i the unlucky 1/100 chip holder that happens to be a piece of crap or am I just retarded at overclocking in general?
I really appreciate the help!

On another note when I first purchased the ram I was able to run it in 1866 with everything stock settings for a few days then I flashed my bios and even continuing on stock settings it will not POST with 1866 and only runs in 1600 which I for the life of me cannot figure out.

Running a 960T, corsair a70 dual fans, same board, 2x2 corsair 1600s, athena 950 (700 watts @110v) power supply. Best I can get is 3.85 stable. I have gotten 4.31 out of it on 3 cores with a single HD 5750 running. It will not do that with a gtx 460 installed. I dont know if it is the VR on the board shutting down or the power supply. BTW a 10v 3300 cap blew in the pwr sup, so maybe that was it. Replaceing it with a 1000watt pwr sup. I know its not a 8150, I have 1045t I can put in but I know that 4.0 + is not probable with that CPU. Will see if more watts is the answer.

I have been considering a FX-8150 because 1090ts are too scarce and same price or morer than. When twisted right the 8150 is just betterer. If you can get 4.1G I will get one too.

with the right mobo you might get more out of that 960T. i suggest this . . .

and if you still not satisfied, then go for the 8120. same as the 8150 clocked lower but cheaper.thumb.gif

hello,
first update bios to most resent, update windows fully, then go in to bios disable cool and quite,c6 state ,c1e,apm and turbo core.
set your cpu load line to ultra high and manual your voltage, this advice may be a bit different for your mobo, but i am able to get 1.44v idle and full load with this mix.i have found cpu llc on auto drops to lowest settings first and that llc extreme is to much.

note to self, this is to older post, why am i typing to myself?
