Sorry, you missed it, everyone's gone home already biggrin.gif

Thanks for the offer, I'll surely ask for more sketches smile.gif

I did cut out a piece of acrylic just now to see if it would fit on the GPU, looks ok, but I some small pieces on the sides will help cover up the pcb better:

I still need to figure out both how to securely mount it and how I'm going to get the design on there.

Where would I need to begin to learn about things like bread boards/etc? I have little/no electronics experience, but would be interested in getting into this stuff!

I've had a few questions on this, one OCN member found a learning kit that looks interesting: http://www.makershed.com/product_p/9780596153748.htm

Or maybe have a look here: http://www.instructables.com/community/Best-Electronics-Kits-For-Adults/

I can say up front, electronics is not something to be mastered over night, but if you find that you enjoy it, then it's a lot of fun, especially when you get to a level where you can start designing your own constructions.

Cheers

Was getting ready to engrave the back lid GPU cover today, but had a minor CNC breakdown, so I didn't get very far. Anyway, CNC fixed, just a small problem where the z-axis connection between stepper and leadscrew got disconnected. I'm just using a piece of rubber tube with a couple of clamps, it works very well, as long as it stays tightened.

700

I did manage to get a piece of scrap wood planed, just taking the top 0.2 mm off to make sure it's reasonably plane, I'll stick the acrylic on there with double sided tape:

444

The thing does require a bit of maintenance once in a while, but not too bad really considering it's 100% DIY and most parts made of wood, biggest problem is usually screws loosening because of vibrations.

I did get the GPU acrylic plate painted though, no so easy to make out in the pictures, but it's painted white first, then black. I want the white on the inside to reflect as much light in the acrylic as possible to hopefully give better spread and more uniform back light.

White:

312

Black: (it's a flat black, but still wet)

315

After that it will go in the CNC and I'll attempt to engrave the design.

Easy now .. it could turn out a disaster, you'll know that's what happened if I stop talking about it and move onto something else biggrin.gif

Here is a simulation of what it should look like after CNC'ing:
