This is absolutely amazing man... You need to find a way to mass produce and market this setup.

I nominate jvjessen for McGyver of OCn if there is that award out there.

Now that I see your title, it reminds me that I was thinking about doing a folding progress/status screen as well. Just need to figure out how to extract the progress and status info. I guess parsing the log file is the only option.

That is a screen from the setup software I wrote for it. That particular one is for setting up data on the screen. It's made so you can have multiple screens of data and then have it rotate them at a configured interval.

I'll post some more details on the config.

Queston: Would it work to use a potentiometer to control the fan speed and have a microcontroller with an embedded system calculate RPM / percentage of the fan for the display?

Yes that is possible, most important is how the fan is driven, if it's with a PWM drive on a 3 pin fan, then the RPM (tachometer) output cannot be used. But if it's a linear drive then you can use a microcontroller to measure the duration between the pulses and calculate the RPM.

Question; you use a CNC machine. What if I would use an engraving handtool to remove the paint from the custom plexi gfx card backplate. Would that also work for this kind of mod?

Q2; do you fit it with double sides tape? Can you put it basically anywhere on the back of the gpu?

Yes, you can easily use the same method to hand engrave an acrylic backplate for your GPU card. Just cut and paint the plate first then engrave it through the paint.

Just be careful when you add the LEDs that you cover them to prevent short circuiting the card, best to put a sheet of plastic or something between. Also consider adding some holes for ventilation.

Yes, I just used double sided tape to mount mine, I think I used 3 layers, just small pieces on each corner, it's good enough that it's securely mounted.
