Custom Fan Controller Build - Working on 5" display (Warning: pic heavy) - Page 9

The cutouts did come out nice:

286

But I managed to get some measurements wrong and the display holes on the wrong side of the line:

308

I guess that's what I get from being a bit lazy, I always tell people to measure twice and cut once, just seldom do it myself biggrin.gif

Anyway, I'll just have to make another one.

Got one made that fits perfectly, painted it black, it will not be holding the controllers, just front plate to make it look nice.

I used my DIY CNC for the cutting, it's could use a bit of cleaning biggrin.gif

First you make a drawing, like the ones I posted earlier, then you load the drawing (g-code) into the CNC controller. I'm using an old Linux box running EMC2. When you start, it will just moves a spinning cutter bit across the material in the pattern of your drawing and cut it out a little at a time.

Mine isn't very fast or very accurate, probably not more than 0.5 mm accuracy. But much easier than doing it by hand smile.gif

I think I spent around $400-500 to build it, so not that expensive, I'm planning to re-build it in aluminium so I can get higher accuracy and better speeds, just haven't gotten around to doing it yet.

While I had the CNC rig started up, I did a test on a small CPU plate: (just testing, I need a round one)

It's about 50mm wide

471

And lit using one of the fan controllers RGB output:

252

281

OK, I should have cleaned it first, but anyway, it's just for a test to see if it would work.

The final one should look something like this:

378

So I'll paint the acrylic black before doing the engraving.

It will then be tied to the CPU temperature sensor and change color from blue to red as the temperature rises.

I'm planing something similar for my GPU card.
