PC WAS ON SLEEP, I CLOSE THE WALL SWITCH, OPEN IT 8 HOURS LATER AND MY DATA RESUMED!

Can someone explain why? I'm not using an SSD, using 2 HDD's so I assume during low power state it had enough charge in the PSU to maintain itself (as in hibernate it coppies ram and stuff to HDD).

When I opened it though I had four youtube vids loaded on 1 monitor, 5 ocn threads and a wikipage on another and on the other one FB.

My experiance was laggy and slow but I refreshed one tab and then it's buttery smooth like usual.

Rig is in the description (+ a few changes).

What's odd though is that it resumed FROM SLEEP and no errors occurred.

if you put the PC in sleep mode, it saves its RAM data on the HDD if i remember correctly,
when you start it back up it reloads that data so you start off at the same point you were at. the reason it still worked? your HDD doesnt format when it isnt connected to power tongue.gif

You're thinking of hibernate, sleep mode is just a low power state. The data is kept in RAM.

I don't remember what the default setting is in windows, after some time in sleep mode I believe ti will start to hibernate. Depending on your motherboard/BIOS, resuming from hibernation may look the same or very similar to resuming from sleep.

Also, hybrid sleep essentially writes data to the disk as if it were hibernating but then stays in sleep mode.
Quote:
Hybrid sleep is designed primarily for desktop computers. Hybrid sleep is a combination of sleep and hibernate—it puts any open documents and programs in memory and on your hard disk, and then puts your computer into a low-power state so that you can quickly resume your work. That way, if a power failure occurs, Windows can restore your work from your hard disk. When hybrid sleep is turned on, putting your computer into sleep automatically puts your computer into hybrid sleep. Hybrid sleep is typically turned on by default on desktop computers.

I'd say that's most likely.

Alright thanks!

My Desktop has no hibernate options (which I found odd but my laptop (sony) does) but it has sleep so I usually do that to turn off all the bells and whistles (keyboard lights/headphone lights/mouse lights/monitor indicator lights etc) when I'm going to bed/leaving in the morning.

Yes I assumed the ram was copied onto the HDD. But I thought it was odd that the HDD didn't stay powered on sometimes.

I also had issues with the browser being sluggish while when resuming from sleep it never happens.

All C states are ON in my CPU otherwise it causes problems with sleep/hibernate whatever my PC is doing.

The HDD indiciator light still flashes when in Hibernate though which is why I posted this thread; anyways thanks guys thumb.gif.
