it was brand new on ebay for £127.99 so couldnt really turn it down. its packed up and ready for return so either another 8120 or im goin back to phenom

upgrade you cooler and post some screenshots of specs of things like clock speed, voltage, and temps.

You're right it should cool it. It just runs at like 80% the whole time. It always sounded like an airplane. But it doesn't sound like it's keeping your CPU cool at all. Do you have any other compatible AM3+ coolers?

What kind of PSU do u have? Also is your Motherboard bios updated, that should be your first thing u do, if u have another chip u can put in do that and tweek the mb, check voltages, temps, see if there is anything abnormal,

Depending on the board u have a bios might be mandatory, AMD actually recommends a update

yeh i have tried 2 or 3 other coolers, its still the same. i got my dual core in it now and everythiing is fine. dont know anything about crucial ballistix do ya??

i have flashed the bios to latest version which the supplier recomended. i have a 750w psu its new too but only a 25 quid jobby for now. but should still be fine.

no, i tend to stay away from crucial but memory is memory for the most part, is your Motherboard bios updated, that could fix it, also do a cmos reset

What is the cpu voltage set to in the BIOS? Sometimes even with a BIOS update, the processor will run at an incorrect voltage. On the stock cooler, even a tiny bit of extra voltage on these FX chips can cause quite a bit of heat.

Personaly, i think u have a bumb chip, it shouldnt get that hot even if voltage is a tad off, id take it back, but like another poster said one word problem "EBAY" stay away from ebay when it comes to computer parts.
