For now, I would not worry about the case too much.

Here is a converter for your IDE drives (just get one for the CD Rom for example. There are not many SATA Optical drives out, and they're mostly a bit expensive.)
Manhattan IDE TO SATA150 Converter £10.52 Inc VAT

Or, since they're not that expensive, get a smallish SATA drive.
80 Gb Seagate ST380811AS Barracuda 7200.9, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 8MB Cache, 9.5 ms, NCQ £31.36 Inc VAT
Personally, I think that's the best solution. Use the SATA for Windows and applications, and one of your IDE drives for data.

That's what I've heard anyway.
Right... might have mentioned this before but here i go again:
Currently i have 1 CD drive IDE
1 HDD windows on (boot)
1 HDD with about 150gb downloads

Could i use a converter for my cd drive, then have the IDE port in my mobo for my boot HDD and then use another converter for my downloads folder?
I obviously won't be accessing my downloads that much, nothing is installed on it, there's just a lot of music which itunes accesses and then the odd game i might download and install. Is this a viable solution? Or would it be too slow, for instance installing from my downloads HDD or CD drive?

Or, spend even more money and buy a sata drive to put windows onto? - I know this is what you think is best Chozart

Thanks

You'll only need one converter, since you can hook up two devices to one IDE slot (master + slave). Thus, get one converter, and use it for which ever drive you want.

Since a new HDD is not that much more, I do think it's the best solution

Hi, i've still been shopping around a bit and seen this ATI card (ebuyer quickfind code: 84934), this looks just as good if not better than the 7600GT, or am i wrong?

Only thing holding me back from blowing £400 on the new system is the thought of the PS3 coming out next year and the price of a nice HD LCD to buy with it :S, Its all too much money!

X850 is a bit more powerful, but lacks sm3.0 support. I'd settle for the 7600GT

PS3? are you serious? Wayyy overpriced if you ask me.

ah thank you for you opinion... whats sm3? - smartshader 3?

I'm afriad i am very sure about PS3, i've just got to get one, i know pc's will have an edge over consoles in terms of new hardware continously being brought out, but there's something about playstation (or just consoles in general) and the ps3 will be pretty good. So im definetely getting one, and hopefully a nice 28"-32" (or bigger!) HD LCD/Plasma to match

Do some research aobut the PS3... so far, things are not looking too hot. Sony might shoot themselves in their foot big time with this one. Oh well, your choice

sm3.0 = shader model 3.0. This is beneficial for image quality, esp. in water reflections and that kind of things.

Thanks

I can't see sony really ever shooting themselves in the foot, the console and games are far too good, the delay has only meant the release date will come with more games already out and developers will have more time to refine the games. I'll wait a few months for the price to drop anyway
