I think Episode 2 is the best five hours of FPS gameplay ever created to be honest. A lot of people feel that way and that's the reason 3 is so highly anticipated.

I didn't like Portal 2 at all. I thought it was obnoxious.

Maybe I'm nuts but I still think it's going to be Episode 3 and not Half-Life 3. The Episode 2 ending is a cliffhanger and there's no way they could start a whole new HL3 story arch off of it. Episode 3 needs to come first and patch up all the holes of Episode 2 and the entire HL2 story arch. Then, and only then, can we start a whole new Half-Life title.

That would be my guess as well. Episode 3 would take a lot less time to make than a whole new HL game would.

There's no reason they couldn't build Half-Life 3 off the episode 2 cliff hanger. In fact I'm expecting half-life 3 rather then episode 3.

Valve made an interesting comment a while back to that all of their games would include multiplayer from the release of Portal 2 onward. It would be cool to see Half-Life utilize some sort of co-op mode. Half life 1 and 2 are deeply single player experiences but if any company could pull it off it's Valve.

I feel you but if you look at Half-Life 2, it starts in a completely separate "world" from HL1, so-to-speak. They want you to be able to play Half-Life 2 without needing to play Half-Life 1. Sure, you won't understand certain references to Black Mesa but for the most part people can loosely follow and enjoy the experience without playing HL1. I'm assuming they would want HL3 to be the same way. That's why I think Episode 3 would be needed to tie up the loose ends in HL2 first. I hope I'm making good sense.

No that actually does make sense. My gut feeling though is that part of the reason the project has taken so long is because the scope of it has also changed. I would want episode 3 first if I thought there was any chance valve would get Half-Life 3 out the door faster after that but I think it'd be another four years.

At this point I want as much Half-Life as possible. If you really think about it most of the questions about the world are still unanswered. I want to know who the G-Man is. I want to know how aperture science fits into the whole big picture. I want to explore the borealis. etc etc. I still think they have a lot of stuff to do.

That's totally me in that comic. Really I don't think Valve has ever made a bad product. I don't even know if I'd be a PC gamer without Valve.
