it depends on what you want out of your image. do you need to have a shallow depth of field? or do you want everything in focus.
its likely that if you shoot in auto the camera will use flash. a tripod will help if you want everything in focus assuming you are shooting under poor lighting conditions.
honestly shooting in manual mode is a good idea and shooting with the lowest ISO possible to get a decent image. if that is not an option then shutter priority is the next best bet probably
