I made a thread about overclocking about a month ago (link) and I didn't really overclock since then until yesterday.
I'm trying to find out which settings will allow more stable overclock, i.e. settings that will allow me to lower Vcore without causing instability.
When I say stability, I'm talking about 1 hour or 20 passes in LinX using 25000-27500 problem size.
A month ago I managed to get stable 4.2 GHz using 1.28V Vcore and everything else set to default.
Today I tried 4.2 GHz using these settings:
Vcore - 1.28V
LLC - 3
Turbo boost power limit - 250/250
Core current limit - 250
Spread spectrum - disabled
Power saving - disabled
And it failed (BSOD). This is confusing me because I thought reducing LLC (from default 5 to reduce Vdroop) and increasing turbo boost power limit and core current limit increases stability. Spread spectrum is disabled to help with multiplier dropping under load (turbo boost power limit also helped with that).
Only other change is I added GPU to my system (HD 7850) which I didn't have a month ago.
So, what do you think, why is this happening and how else can I increase stability without editing other voltages and C states?
