Well, at least the devs themselves have some balls and will continue with the post-apocalyptic trend, which is not that bad, imo.

The first series of games I would have been really impressed with if it was Indie.
But it wasn't.
So it was far from impressive.
The first series was pretty bad? Man, you have no idea what are you talking about.
a) Stalker has a unique IA. It so unique that the world keeps growing around you all the time, wether you are in that exact map or not. This is something that has never been seen in any other game prior to this...and yes, it also caused many headaches because important charachters could die during those sequences...but when modded, its INCREDIBLE.
b) Its true Stalker is lacking if we talk about geometry...but the textures are SUPERB, and once you get into basements those missions are probably second to none. I've played X16 and X18 at least 20 times each and I never get tired of them, and they still give me the creeps. No other game has brought so much replayability, because Stalker is unique.
c) The atmosphear that surrounds the game is also unique. No other game gives you so many choices to make, in an unfriendly environment without showing you the way by the hand. You start, you have no clue wth is going on, and you have to find it for yourself. Its also incredible that feel the game has, the loneliness, the amazing yet lethal wilderness in the game...
So, please, stop talking stuff you don't know. Actually, with the last patch applied, Stalker is a pretty stable game, and so different and so non-commercial that its clearly on any Top 20 for computer games of all time. Its not a perfect game, but its so unique you have to give it a few hours in order to get addicted to it.

That was a rumour. On the official STALKER FB page Joe confirmed that this was NOT the case. I just tried finding the link but thanks to this new timeline crap I can't find it again.
However Joe confirmed that Sergei Grigorovich still owns the IP.
Not to mention it doesn't make any sense for Bethesda to take on the IP since it has a small cult following in a niche PC market. Yes it sold pretty well for a PC only titles (4.5m over the 3 games) however it just doesn't make any economic sense for Bethsoft to buy the IP. STALKER polarised the community. You either love it or hate it. There are very few people in the middle ground. Not to mention that most of Bethsofts games have sold 5m+ copies EACH. Consolising STALKER will never work, which was one of the issues why GSC ended up being shut down, since they wanted to can the console version and the investors insisted they pushed on, which caused the whole issue in the beginning.
So I can't possibly see any reason why Bethesda would take on the STALKER IP. Not to mention I genuinely hope they don't, they will find a way to screw it up, just like Fallout 3.
Fallout wasn't a very well known franchise when Bethesda got it. If you look at the figures, Bethesda got a product that was very good on its own, but wasn't very famous, and sold a crap load of games.
Also, Stalker as it is can't work on consoles at all, because it requires too much ram. Keep in mind that every single living thing in the game has an inventory on itself and, when fully modded, you'd rather have 8GB of ram if you want to play mods like Stalkersoup properly, or you will get crashes on certain areas due to lack of ram.

However, I agree that Bethesda shouldn't be the ones to take over the STALKER series. The only people I want working on STALKER are GSC Game World's developers, but seeing as they had to cancel it and form a new team, I don't want anyone else to try. The only developers I would actually trust to continue the STALKER series is 4A Games. I don't think it will happen, though.
Actually.. that would be kinda cool.. It would be neat to see what STALKER would look like on the 4A Engine. My only worry would be that they would make it too linear.
Nah, the 4A can't be compared at all with X-Ray engine. The global IA in X-Ray is what makes it a unique engine, and the 4A Engine only has good graphics and thats it. There are no big maps in Metro, nor good IA nor nothing. The game was good because the atmosfear was there, and the story wasn't that bad, but there was nothing "stunning" at all, nor game changing like it was on Stalker. IMO, the open world scheme in Stalker, together with the fantastic and unique global IA makes it second to none in those regards.
Mmmmm, I'm not sure what to think of Survarium. They mention that it will be a Free 2 play online FPS but...how is that? It makes no sense to me when they have a capital investor from the Ukraine supporting them...
...we will see. I'm sure I'll get the game. After all, I played the Stalker series more than any other game (and probably more than all single player games combined :S ), so they deserve my money for all the good times I had with Stalker.
