I am beginning to suspect ivy bridge is way more powerfull then user think and intel throttled it via temperature.wouldnt be the first time intel find inovative ways to throttle their cpu.would be first time tbat they actullly throttle a k processor wich is supposed to be fully unlocked .but try proving tbis is a lock.almost impossible

Most heat spreaders are made of copper these days. It's easy to mistake them for steel or another material because they are plated to prevent them from oxidizing.

Does it look like the die is encased in a metal cover? I mean it has rounded edges... most dies are rectangular with sharp edges...

I think if it IS metal, we should be able to use heatsink on the direct die. If the test shows massive temp headroom gains I would delid a 3770k and slap a waterblock on there.

They've been made of nickel-plated copper forever now. Even the heatspreader on Pentium III CPUs is nickel-plated copper.

i think Intel is sandbagging, I bet IB would be great Overclocker but we'll never know now since they pulled this stunt.
they're doing this so people won't OC high. they don't want the expectations for haswell to be too high so they can continue to slowly devlop sandbagged CPU's since AMD clearly can't compete mad.gif

I sure hope we re wrong cause if cooling engineer find a solution to cool directly on the cpu with some kind of graphene based termal paste.and get good result.intel will never hear the end of it
