8120 is slower clock for clock, so if you had them both OC'd to 4GHz the 980 would smash the 8120 in everything except multi-threaded junk.

You'll need to clock the 8120 to 4.6GHz + to match a 4GHz Phenom II in single threaded things/gaming and by doing so you'll also use a hell of a lot more power with the 8120.

BF3 definitely loves the 8120. Just look at my usage.

at stock, the 8120 wins for video editing and compressing and stuff like that, while the phenom wins for gaming. overclocked to the wall, the 8120 wins at everything but uses much more power (if you care about that) due to the fact an fxs wall is about 5ghz vs the phenoms 4ghz

Bottom line is that while a 8120 would be an upgrade over an X4, it wouldnt be a huge upgrade and since you can pick up a 960T for $130 right now and a 8120 runs you around $180, if youre shopping for value or performance per dollar, the X4 is the way to go. If youre not worried about value and just want to most overclocking potential and the most performance you can get, the 8120 is the better processor albeit slightly.

All this talking about them really makes me want to go buy one just to play with it and see what it can do compared to my trusty X6 running 4 gig.

All though the FX chips aren't bad( I have a 4100) this 960t I just got owns it by a fair margin. It easily unlocked to a hexacore and for $125 you really can't beat it. I will be using it until piledriver comes out and beyond if there isn't a significant improvement in the chips. Again the 8120 will be a great chip and play games great because my 4100 did. But buying a 960t would just be saving some money.

if you do get a bulldozer, be suer to have your ram clocked as high as possable. bd is one of the few platforms today (the other being llano) that really benifits from high clocked ram. 2/3 of the bad reviews use 1333mhz ram. good reviews? almost always use 1600mhz+ ram
