Great for a combined mediaPC/server: 1 SSD, 1 ODD and 6 HDDs in RAID5.
That would be awesome.

Array R2 anyone?

Considering a grain of salt was the component of a fictional antidote to poison, more salt would suggest a stronger antidote to counter a stronger poison. The reason why we say "take it with a grain of salt" is because the information may be "poison," i.e. false; a stronger poison would need more antidote, and thus more salt.

TL;DR: More salt needed = information is more likely to be false.

In other news, I see that mikezachlowe still has a strange obsession with putting elipsis at the end of every news post.

Now, in regards to the topic: that's an awful lot of devices. Seems wasteful.

That's the word from several sources....

I thought Trinity is not expected to be compatible with the FM1 socket. There were pictures posted on Chiphell last November showing that there are pins on Trinity that will occlude against one of the pin blocks on Socket FM1.

My interpretation of the situation is that the A75 chipset can be used on an FM2 socket motherboard. Such a motherboard would support only Trinity. Trinity would not work on an A75 based FM1 motherboard.

It's possible, albeit extremely unlikely, that the pin layout has been changed since the early Trinity engineering samples so that it could be compatible with FM1 boards. There are probably more fundamental pin assignment changes that make this impossible.

It's seems that AMD's not as targeted as much towards gaming-end hardware as much as consumer-end hardware now. AMD has suffered a big loss recently, maybe they're trying to turn the consumer PC market around...? rolleyes.gif
I would think so, AMD's CPU's are (generally) much cheaper than Intel's; and are more aimed towards what an average consumer would use. The graphical output of Llano and Trinity APU's are of a (generally) much better caliber than most PC's that are built by consumer PC companies (Dell, Lenovo, Toshiba, etc.); my friend's father spent 1.5K on a workstation computer that only had a HD 6450 in it, and most of my other friends' computers have integrated Intel graphics or integrated motherboard graphics.
I think AMD just might hit the jackpot with Trinity and A85 smile.gif

No. Even though A55 and A75 chipset will be ported to FM2, Trinity cannot be used on FM1 motherboard, due to Turbo Core 3.0 which warrants a new socket.

Though you can't use all 8 ports to its full potential, due to not enough bandwidth in UMI.

Correct.

Llano on FM1. Trinity on FM2. FM1 socket is officially dead people.

This is very true. For the AVERAGE pc user AMD is a MUCH better buy than anything from Intel. It's only when you get into the enthusiast or professional range of PCs where Intel cpu's shine.

You won't see any motherboard that make use of those USB 1.1 ports anyway. smile.gif

Thread Starter
I seen a pic that showed Trinity to have same pin layout as Llano minus a single pin so if thats the case then there should be no problem Trinity fitting on FM1 board and for the Turbo 3.0 could just be on the APU itself. Guess we'll know for sure at release. Also, this is not the only source that says Trinity will be compatible with FM1 boards.

outch!middle of the pack buyer be it mobile or not will love this apu!intel looks very bad here!i aint talking external gpu but those only using the apu for all!
espacially at the screen size if amd make it possible for people to use 1080i on the mobile!intel could be in serious trouble vs this apu on the middle of the pack market (their bread and butter, intels)
