Ubuntu 11.10
AMD Athlon 64x2 5000
1 gb of Crucial Ram
MSI Radeon HD R4350
Biostar MCP6P M2+
40gb Hardrive
HDMI connection
Wireless Internet connection

The first day I built this It ran great even at HD full screen 1080 on youtube and other sites.
Now second and third day it stutters alot. On higher resolutions more. I can play 1080 small screen (normal screen) on youtube the moment I go full screen it practically freezes the lag is so bad. Lower resolutions slightly better but still a stutter is present and obvious. I'm confused because the first day it ran great.

My thoughts are maybe the 1 gig of ram isn't enough. Maybe the wireless connection doesn't send the data fast enough and I should use a lan line (got one on order). Last the only fan I have in the case is the cpu heatsink fan, and the PSU fan, the gpu doesn't use one, trying to keep it hush. I'm thinking maybe the hardware is getting hot in the case.

I have all these thoughts but then I go back to the first day that it ran so good watching the wifes soap opera. Any tips you can give me is appreciated. Thank you.

most likely the wireless.

i get super crappy youtube playback even via LAN, youtube's servers are horrible.

something else you can try is instead of using ubuntu unity, login to classic with no desktop effects.

You have 1GB ram only. Have you tried to get more ram for your system.
With youtube videos, your GPU is slightly used and more so CPU/Ram.

Also are you using a gigabit connection or a standard 10/100?
When you mean wireless, is the system going wired or wireless?
Which wireless adapter are you using?

Up the RAM to 4 GB and possibly upgrade your wifi...depending on your adapter and signal, may not be getting enough throughput...

More RAM and go wire. Wireless has higher latency, meaning higher chance to stutter.

What is your swap size?

Update

Added another 1 gig of ram.

And went wired.

Results= A big improvement. I now have 2 gigs but will take your advice and go to 4, I get paid on the first. The cat 5 came in the mail, connected and woot I'm very happy thank you all for your help I will update when I get the ram.

Next I need to get a mini wireless keyboard and mouse so the wife and control it from bed.

Also I'm still amazed that a $30 graphics card can bring the same result as far as viewing quality on HD shows that can honestly compare to TVs that costs hundreds. My brother in law has an expensive TV that leaves me in awe when I see it. Especially when cartoons like Monsters Inc. are on. When I go to You tube and punch in HD test 1080 it puts a smile on my face:)thumb.gif thanks again.

I have 2gb ram in a htpc running windows 7. If I can do it in windows you should be good in linux.

nvm ,hadnt seen your second reply about you going 2 gb!at 2gb if you still get stutering its something else!make sure you update your network driver!and sadly no you cannot uppdate via ms.you have to find your nic brand etc the whole name scheme the company use then go to their site (hopefully it is a big name like intel or realtek,cause they make updating a smooth process)dont laugh this often remove or fix a lot of issue all by itself!

One problem I have had in the past is some Green setting in my NIC driver/settings. Disabling it fixed my issue.
