I wouldn't use your money and buy an SSD before getting a 1080p monitor. thumb.gif

4. second 6870

You dont need a x6 CPU for gaming... in reality, you should be grabbing an intel system if you want dual GPUs. Intel architecture handles multi-GPU setups better. Maybe Piledriver will change that.

But since you have mid-range cards you should be fine with AMD. but 6 cores will not benefit you over a second GPU in games.

I personally think AMD sux when they come to CPU. thing is... you are talking about keeping your "dual core" AMD (lol) aside with a HD 6870 + 1080p monitor? you have no idea how bad that CPU is when you put it to work with SSD or gaming. basically if you do get the SSD, you will have faster PC, really fast PC (great) but when it comes to gaming... maps will only load faster but you will have the same performance.. so basically if you got the SSD you wont benefit as much as if you got a quad core intel CPU that will increase your performance of normal PC use AND gaming. so.. yeh i'll vote for 2500k smile.gif

With your budget and assuming the rig in your sig is what you're currently running on:

A 1080p monitor is your best purchase in terms of upgrading.

It may not seem like it, but trust me. You'll be happy you got a better/bigger monitor. You're even better off it you can get a 19x12 monitor in that price range. thumb.gif

yeh... upgrade your monitor before PC? i dont think its a wise choice, nothing is better than gaming smoother and THEN boosting up the monitor. other than that i wouldnt do it

You failed to bold the first line also, noting where it says, "With your budget and assuming the rig in your sig is what you're currently running on:", which would put my second line into perfect and complete context. doh.gif

Contrary to popular belief, most games are GPU-bound. There are some that are CPU-bound, and even then, Phenom II's handle just fine in 95% of circumstances and situations those games get into.

#2

His GPU can do just fine up to 25x14; he's currently on 12x10. Why wouldn't you want to maximize your output?

#3

Upgrading his CPU would maybe enhance his CPU-bound games at 12x10, but 95% of games are GPU-bound as we've already noted, so wouldn't a 1080p or better monitor be the favored choice?

#4

Smoothness in a game is not a direct result of which CPU you use. It is a matter of coding, game engine, optimization, hardware, and several other factors.
