CPU Overheating, or is it?

Hey all,

So I had built my first PC a few months ago;

i5-2500K
ASUS P8-Z68 V/Gen 3
H100 Cooling system
Corsair 500R.

Everything remains stock, no OC here, yet my CPUID HWMonitor app sometimes shows my CPU running at 240F!!!!!!! So I freak, even though in the back of my mind I feel it might be a glitch or something, so I restart the computer and go to the ASUS program that comes up before windows starts up (Catalyst Control Center I think?) and it shows my temps to be running at mid to high 70s C. We are talking a few seconds here, it couldnt possibly cool down that fast right? I let it run for a few moments to see if the temp changes and nothing. I turn on the HWMonitor and the temps are back down to low 60s C. I never feel hot air coming from any of the fans on the Rig. Any ideas? Am I correct in thinking its an error? I play BF3 or Men Of War: AS for about three hours or so before I decide to check the Monitor app, sometimes it spikes, most of the time it stays around the same temps. Whats going on here?? Thanks.

are you referring to overheating CPU or GPU? your sig rig states you are using H100 for CPU, please clarify the idle and under stress temperatures of both CPU and GPU.

I am referring to the CPU, which is why I mentioned the CPUID HWMonitor, I think it might be giving me a bad reading since as soon as I restart the PC the temps are dramatically lower within 45 seconds.

This is a photo of the CPUID on a good day after a good amount of use. Idle is around 60C (140F)

GPU Load temps a Max of 55-60C Idle is 35-39C

I cant find the photos of the CPU with high temps. But when it happens again I will do it.

CPUTIN should be the socket...
the CORE's are the temp you need to watch.

my guess would be it's just a glitch or maybe the temp probe is getting hot without a downward blowing cooler?

alright, you are saying the CPU temp reaches ~60 C idle while running a H100 on it? can you provide a screen shot where the CPU is running idle with its temps at around 60c? plus you can use a program called realtemp, if you are thinking that the program you are currently using is providing you with improper readings.

so if your CPU is running at around 60c while you have a H100 in your system, there might be a problem with your circulation. make sure the pump is working fine, i am no liquid cooling expert but i can tell you right now that your i5 2500k should not be running @ ~60c while idle, please dont forget to provide the SS (with another program if you think your current is wrong) with the CPU idling at 60c.

I had a problem with my H60 like that. Remove thermal paste that is included, get some QUALITY stuff like arctic silver 5, and enjoy temps in the 30s.

Before AS5 I was getting high 70s, even 80s on prime95. Now, it doesnt budge past 44c after 10 hours. It seems really stupid that for the money you paid for the cooler they provide you with THE ABSOLUTE WORST thermal paste, but its true. Corsair should be shot in the face with a rocksalt loaded sawed-off.

AS5 is like 8 bucks on newegg and since you're in queens can probably get there by friday. Good luck smile.gif

did you guys even see the shots of HWmonitor?
the 60c is coming from the CPU SOCKET not the cores. which are well under 40c.
there is no way the socket is reaching 60c and the cores are only around 34c.
it's most likely a glitch. or the probe has gone bonkers.

As for the bad paste on the kuhler.... I saw no change when I switched over to AS5 from the pre-applied stuff

I finally got to take photos today of this problem. Yesterday I played 4-5 hours of BF3, no problems! Today I used the internet and only managed to use up a whopping 7% GPU load while on youtube and she gets really hot. ***? Photo shows 35% Load but that was after downloading RealTemp again.

Its a glitch. Ignore it and go by the core temps.
