Well , for a $100 difference i don't see why you wouldn't take the 680GTX , it's more powerful, consumes less, cool features (cuda , physX biggrin.gif) so..(review : [7970 XF, 680 sli)

AMD has dropped there prices on the 7000 series so 1100us is not right btw more like 950~1000us and I have not seen a 680 in stock at there list prices which there jacked up price of 649~750us each is getting old! I would say if you are not willing to wait till the 680's drop to there normal prices then get the 7970's and this is coming from someone that doesn't particularly like ATI/AMD cards

I'd get the 680s.

Benchmarks came out comparing the two, but they were just terrible for the comparison. They only used 1920x1080 and 2560x1200(I think?) and they used out of date Nvidia drivers. Newer drivers might increase performance and beat the 7970s later on, but its up to you. The difference in average FPS was around 10-15ish.

somebody posts this in the forum earlier today

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2012/04/25/geforce_gtx_680_3way_sli_radeon_7970_trifire_review/9

definitely GTX680, it beats 7970 in most benchmark reviews, single, dual, tri, gpu setups

hd 7970 has more vram, better cooler and is cheaper. windforce 3 edition will allow for better overclocking.

Maybe you should take a look at the 690 gtx that came out :

-same Performance that 680 gtx sli
-better thermals and acoustics
-GREAT overclocking potential
-same price that the 680 gtx sli (1000$)
-efficient Power consumption ( -100W in most situations vs 680 sli)

670's are coming out this week and they perform the same as the 7970s. They are also alot smaller and cheaper, so if you are going to get 7970's you may aswell get two 670's or if you want the best of the best grab two 680's.
