What they dont tell you in shooter games

Hello everybody. I am not only an adamant gamer, I am also quite the shooter of guns in real life. Just today I got motivated to go and shoot my beautiful 1911 kimber custom 45acp. Wonderful gun shoot 400+ rounds through it. and before me my dad shot 5000+ rounds through it in his life. I went out to go shooting 2 clips into my shooting I got a jam. My gun is now out of commision til a gunsmith can dislodge the stuck rd in my chamber of my gun.
this brings me to my title. Malfunctions are something I have never seen any game actually through into the mix. I can shoot a million rds through my in game gun and nothing happens. But as i very well know jams and dead bullets happen in real life. Its time that game makers take this into account when designing modern day shooters

farcry 2 tried to implement jams and other malfunctions but it was more gimmick it seemed.
i agree with a shooter needing to add in more realistic weapon functioning, but the mechanic would complicate the gameplay because there are so many variables involved.
they would either simplify it like FC2, or make it over complicated and annoying.

i agree with wanting a more realistic shooter gun wise though as i am also a gun enthusiast and want a sim of some kind for when i cant hit the range, or IDPA type stuff.

i do want to know what kind of feed malfunction you encountered where you cant clear it yourself...?

America's Army and a couple other games tried it at some point. Most of them patched it out for game play reasons.

Thing is, i think if we start adding that type of realism, other realistic factors like health/damage would come into play and like already said, effect the gameplay flow.

Man, I miss AA. Such a great game before they started adding vehicles. The jamming was one of my favorite parts of the game. Definitely one of the most tactical shooters I ever played.

The problem is, games (at least MP) are meant to be competitive.
Competitive players HATE random events, as it does not represent skill.
Hence random events wont be very well recieved in an MP game.

In Sp, its a different story. On one hand, games like FC2 and STALKER have it, but in both cases its VERY gimmicky (especially FC2). On the other, making it realistic would probably turn off a lot of players.

There are a few games that show weapon stoppages being rectified, and in the real military, the operator rectifies them, not an armorer unless its pretty serious, and in your case, a jammed round should be easyuto fix....

want realism? No health items. Carrying more stuff slows you down. No unrealistic item placement and drops that make no sense (weapons on the ground before you kill someone to take their stuff and bullets aren't universal). One life through the entire game, you die once, either you have to start over from the start of the game or you have to buy a new copy. No shields or stat enhancing items. No levelling. All items that are meant to be one hit KO should be one hit KO (even for the computer in single player ie. direct hit grenades). No saves. Game works in real time.

Seriously though, how would you feel if you were factually better than someone and they won because you had a jam every 30 seconds while they got lucky and never got one. Games are meant to be unrealistic and fun, even the most realistic ones. What would you do then if all your guns jammed or stopped working during the game? you can't exactly leave a battle to get it serviced. Taking this step of 'realism' isn't as easy as you make it sound because there are millions of other things that have to go along with it to make any sense and not break the gameplay.
