Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240Gb, Did I make a mistake?

I just ordered the above drive from ramexperts.com: This . My question is; is this the same drive as the one on Newegg.com that has enhanced in the title? Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe. What does the enhanced stand for/do or is it just a marketing thing? Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: why can't I see the links to the drives?

The "Enhanced" version uses synchronous nand, the "deluxe regular" uses asynchronous. Essentially, synchronous nand can have better transfer speeds under specific conditions. I think this comes in during simultaneous read/write cycles.

I wouldn't say you made a mistake though. I have a Chronos. They are fast as hell, like most SSDs. Even if you don't set it up properly, and bottleneck it on sata 2, you can still boot windows in under 20 sec, or better.

Point is, Enhanced or not, its going to be fast. Don't worry about it.

Close, but the Enhanced version uses 34nm Toggle Nand, not 2xnm Synchronous Nand.

Fixed your links, when you link something you need to put down the name or something, then highlight it, then click the add URL tool. wink.gif

The drives you linked are the same drive. At "RAM Experts" they just abbreviated the company name from Mushkin Enhanced to just Mushkin.

So I cancelled my order for a Mushkin Chronos Deluxe 240GB. I was wondering what I should get? I only have SATA 2 on my MSI X58 Pro but I would be willing to upgrade my motherboard too if necessary. I read on Tomshardware.com that the Samsung 830 drive is comparable or even faster than the Chronos 240GB, maybe I should get that one? In summary what I want to know is 1) Should I upgrade my motherboard to a SATA 3 board, maybe another x58 with SATA 3 and 2) Which SSD Should I get for performance and reliability? Thanks for all the help so far.

honestly you won't notice a difference in speeds b/w any current high end SSD.

No, if you upgrade get ivy or sandy bridge, X58 boards only have crappy Marvell SATA 3 ports, not native.

Samsung and Intel are top for reliability in the market.

Also, you could look into the Plextor M3 or Corsair Performance Pro, but all of these are a lot more than the Mushkin.

5Yr warranty biggrin.gif -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820249015
