BTW I don't use a CD/DVD Drive and only a SSD and Harddive if this helps power wize.
I'd like to not upgrade the psu if possible.

Because people don't know what they are talking about I guess.

Molex ^ The card should come with an adapter that adapts 2 molex's into 1 PCI-E 6 pin. It will not impact your performance unless you are trying to bench the GPU under super high voltage, which if you did it may not be stable.

If you really want a new PSU then just get this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171060

Plenty of power for your use on the cheap + bronze certification.

EDIT: You can simply use molex to PCI-E adapters if you don't have 2 PCI-E plugins. It'll be fine and the card should come with some for you to use.

won't his system get unstable ? and if he is going to OC than the 400w will be nothing. I would recommend a 500-650w .

Hmm, nope, you'd be pushing beyond 400w with that card so no.

Lol you'll be fine. I pull 500W from the wall with a 3930k OC'd to 4.0Ghz and a 6990 OC'd to 900Mhz during load/gaming. An Athlon X2 & 6870 shouldn't push past 400W. The PSU only has 1 six pin power connector and the 6870 requires two, however the 6870 comes with adapters so you'll be ok.

Thread Starter
I think I'll hold off on buying a new PSU for now, I'll try what iinversion said.

Since I don't plan on OCing anything I also do think It should be ok, what should I be monitoring when I get the card to make sure the psu/gpu dont fry?

GPUZ?

I doubt his system will break 300W even under max OC's from the wall.

You don't need to monitor anything. Plug N' Play. Run stress tests if you'd like to make sure your card isn't DOA/defective and then OC if you wish or play games, whatever you'd like.

3930K is a 6c/12t SB-E with a 130W TDP stock + 6990 which is dual 6970's underclocked basically. 500W from the wall isn't actual usage. You need to multiply that by the efficiency of the PSU to get the actual power usage.

Example:

500W * 80% efficiency PSU = 400W actual usage.

No it's SB-E... kookoo.gif

Like I said, from the wall. So he'll be fine. Not that I would dare run my system with a 400W PSU but he'll definitely be fine.
