Yes, and I'm not denying that driveby infections happen. They're just no where nearly as commonplace as you implied in the original post I responded to.

Then you're not reading and learning. People that actually deal with these types of threats are certainly more credible then some random person's individual experience.

This thread is ridiculous. Apple released malware detection software like 2 years ago and it made news because the company never took steps like that. Then you look at the list of "threats" that the software/update was built for and it's like five threats. You could seriously count them on one hand. To say that Apple is 10 years behind Microsoft because they have virtually no threats is one of the worst arguments I ever heard. Security for Macintosh and Windows systems isn't even comparable. They have fundamentally different architectures, with MS starting to emulate UNIX and with evolutes of NT user accounts and kernel architectures back in the Windows 2000 and XP days. That's what made Microsoft's jump from 98/Me to XP so profound. You cannot characterize the nature of security for Macintosh v Windows strictly in terms of who is "better" or "ahead". You CAN say that the threat profiles are different for each environment which requires different strategies. Apple will never have to deal with the kind of security threats that microsoft has to. Even as more and more people turn to mac. When you talk about it in terms of threat volume, MS will never "catch up." That doesn't mean that Windows is insecure or ineffective, it's just different.

Is it? A well-known antivirus/internet security producer scientifically proves that Apple is ten years behind MS in terms of security, and you say it's ridiculous?

Two years ago is still two years ago. Security needs to be updated daily, if I'm not mistaken.
Besides, as far as I could Google it, isn't it only malware detection? That means that it detects malware, but doesn't prevent it, like any normal Windows-based Internet-Security package would do.

Actually, it is. Compare it to professional running. If you don't train and run everyday before a big match, you'll be years behind your competitors, just like mac is behind MS in terms of security.
If you haven't got any malware to combat while the other one has, well, guess who's going to be the more experienced one...

Isn't it? You have malware on both systems, and on both platforms a security program attempts to remove it. It's as simple as that.

You're right there. They're so far ahead they don't need to catch up. It's Mac that will have to do the catching up, since nowadays you hear of a new mac malware almost on a daily basis.
At least, that's my view on it.
