i've used MS all my life and i can tell you this, it all depends on how you use your computer. malware and viruses dont randomly get on your system if you know how to use your system right.
-not like.. oh nice pop up/ad , oh ima click it see what happens.. congratulations, you have won $1,000,000... CLICK... lol... this is not the right way to do it and then complain MS sucks ^^

Umm, apparently you haven't used a computer since 2000. All you have to do is visit Facebook.com or any of your favorite sites such as Engadget/etc to get infected. Pretty sure this has been pointed out in this thread before.

In my nearly 5 Years being a technology salesperson i was asked this week by a customer in the software section if i had any Anti-Virus software for his Mac. I was a little dumbfounded.
I know Trend does and i think Symantec does on there website for those interested.
EDIT: yeah they do. i would imagine this page would be getting a little more traffic these days. after recent events.

AV to Mac is to protect PC viruses from spreading through the mac to other PCs.. Generally, you can use your Mac to clean flash drives and such with these softwares.

I have to say I trust Kaspersky more than any other AV. They are #1 in protection in my book and if they say Mac security sucks, it probably does. The other day I visited TPB on a friends mac to look for a linux distro and a popup came up that froze safari and said "your mac is infected press ok" and I instantly was freaked. I force quit safari and the popup wouldn't go away.

MAC's are just computers after all rolleyes.gif

Did you read the quote I quoted?

I really don't care for MS but AAPL is becoming what MS was.

... That's rude. I'm not entirely sure what you think I said but it doesn't sound like it's what I wrote. Care to clarify?

I said they're doing well enough as it is... over the past two years they've been handling any security threats which pop up and they've been improving security, such as in Lion, and then with Gatekeeper in Mountain Lion.

That's not it at all. You get three options in Gatekeeper, and the second, is the default option:

1) You can run applications from anywhere
2) You can only run applications from the Mac App Store or applications which are signed by Apple. (Any developer can apply for a certificate for their app, there's no requirements they have to meet.)
3) You can only run applications from the Mac App Store.

And, you can override your default choice on a per app basis.
