So 2gb 680 not an option? Seems like I could get away with 1 and then add more over time but maybe not.
More opinions! smile.gif thanks smile.gif

At that resolution? The 680 is a good card (the best at 1080p), but you all know that a 7970 is faster at 1600p, clock for clock.
And even with 4GB, I think you'll need the 384 bit bus for 7680x1440...
But I have no experience with crossfire drivers, sorry.

This is kinda why I'm thinking the 3gb 580... Sure it's not as quick as the 680 but I can buy 3 of them for the same price as 2 4gb 680's!

I really can't bring myself to spend over $2k on gpu's frown.gif so I think it has to be 2x4gb 680's or 3x3gb580's ?

with pricing as it is i can get 3 x 3gb 580's for about $40-50 less than 2 x 4gb 680's... what would be the best solution?

2x 680's would leave a better upgrade path. (2x GPU's vs 3x)

3x 580's would be more powerful, produce more heat, and draw more power.

If the choice was mine I'd probably go for 2x 680's so I'd have a better upgrade path in the future (ie; adding a 3rd 680 rather than a 4th 580)

I'm gonna QFT this. A pair of 680's is the way to go. 4GB models. At that resolution, you're just going to need some ridiculous GPU power and there's no way around that.
