So long as you've logged in at least once online, you have access to offline mode all the time.

Nope.

As long as you've logged into offline mode at least once while online, then you'll have access to offline mode all the time.

I found this out the hard way as my internet went out for a while due to unpaid bills *facepalm* and I couldn't get into Steams offline mode because I'd never used it before.

I used my phone to ask people (on OCN I think) why offline mode wasn't working and they told me I had to log in and use offline mode while online before I could go into offline mode.

Was the first time I felt the threat of this type of DRM.

Funny enough, logging into Origins offline mode worked first time round without having to "go into it at least once" first.

That won't work indefinitely either. You have so much time to connect again before it refuses to start in Offline mode.

I hate Steam with a passion myself. Offline mode is broken, and forced updates to single player games is crap. Try and turn off keep this game up to date and watch it re-enable itself after a restart mad.gif

Someone that is a dial up or Satellite user knows exactly what I'm talking about.

I'm on a crappy 2mbit connection so I know what forced updates are like frown.gif Like you say the option to disable auto-updates just re-enables it self (sometimes, not all the time, for me). Offline mode has never given me a problem, though. I usually playoffline mode when I know there's a huge patch about to hit a game. Don't let the Steam0guys hear you saying that stuff though because they'll come down on you harder than GrizzleBoy in an EA thread.

I've heard that EA will ban your account if you don't hooah your friends if they get a service star!!!
Honestly, this is the equivalent of complaining that your YouTube account can go with you out of the house now with smart phones and that they're messing up youtube by enabling you to upload, watch and comment on videos away from your pc.
It's like going off on one about how MS is ruining your xbox experience because windows' phone operating system also has the ability to access your xbox live account and you can (probably/possibly) play indie games on your phone and add to your gamerscore and chat and blah blah etc.

I'll tell you what, the day my games come with a free ISP is the day thier tracking, spying and constant connection won't bug me. I say if they want it so bad they can pay for it otherwise too bad, and I will not buy an always online single player game. To each and their own but this one is not mine, my wallet has spoken!

Grizzle really loves EA for some reason.

That's what I thought. Every news about EA's on OCN.

How about actually pushing for quality games that people want to buy as a business strategy instead of pumping out CRAP that requires ridiculousness like this which costs more in the end and only serves to anger gamers.

EA... just die already.

As full of dramatics as ever I see!

The point I was making, is that the always online part of this article is bull. The problem is, you're eating it.

It's even making you angry, but you're still shovelling it in your mouth. It's not healthy.

Not convinced? Okay, stop raging with the article for a sec, and tell me specifically which single player EA games that have always online DRM requirements you disagree with.

Which single player game or games specifically that EA have published, that you think require always online drm are you voting with your wallet against?

Or are you going to say that they are going to introduce it to single player games based upon what the EA rep said in the article?

Could you quote the exact words the EA rep said that give you this idea, given that he is mainly only talking about allowing people to access game content away from their computer?

I await your response, if you can make one smile.gif
