If you want there to even be a Battlefield 4 they have to make these critical changes, because like i said, nobody likes walking around a map for 2 minutes; that doesn't mean they "copied" CoD. Just because CoD puts stuff in their game doesn't mean other games can't to do it too. Because I like choice, i like having to be able to choose between a Reflex and a Kobra because i think the reflex's frame is too thick.
Battlefield is integrating smaller maps and faster paced gameplay because people WANT that kind of gameplay. You should really go play Arma dude, you'll probably like it more than you ever liked BF2, snail pace gameplay, tactical gameplay.

It hardly takes 2 minutes to engage in a firefight in BF3. And yes I do prefer the LITTLE slower, tactical style over spawning and maybe getting a quick kill or two before dying maybe 10 seconds later like in COD and then just rinse and repeat for a whole match.

I don't care if people "WANT" fast reflex gameplay, there are other games that are made that way, but Battlefield has not been one of those games. If I wanted that kind of gameplay then I would have been playing MW3 instead but because I like the slower and more tactical gameplay, I choose to play Battlefield, and now they are changing Battlefield to suit COD players which is what is bothering me.

But yea since BF3 didn't live up to my expectations of actually being a true BF2 successor, I've been looking more into ARMA 3 sometime soon.

I played Battlefield 2 for YEARS and it was almost always still fun no matter when I played it, but BF3 got "old" the first month I played it. I still think it's a decent game and still currently play, but it's just not the same Battlefield anymore.

CoD is not get 2 kills die respawn get 2 kills die respawn. Well, maybe for players of lesser skill. I usually get 10-20+ kills before i die in a game..

I understand what you're trying to say about Battlefield not being one of those games, but you gotta understand that close minded games focused on a limited amount of things with a limited amount of choice do not make any money. If Battlefield 3 was 90% improved upon BF2 Only the die-hard Battlefield Fans would buy it and play it. And then they wouldn't make any money; the majority of people that bought it would buy it, play a few hours, and toss it in the pile.

The main reasons why CoD is so popular is because you have so much freedom in CoD to do things, the style of play you wanna do, the type of player you wanna be, what type of attachments you want, what kind of camo on the gun you want, i mean you can even change your reticle shape and color! Freedom of choice, and no other game offered that freedom of choice at the time. And that's why games like Arma and Battlefield have stayed relatively in the dark for so long, it's because they had lack of freedom, lack of choice. I'm not saying Battlefield wasn't really popular, it has had a steady player base for a long time but it never really exploded like CoD.

Battlefield 3 now offers all of that and has been a +1 to the Battlefield series in doing so. Maybe you'll be in luck with Bad Company 3. Maybe they'll alternate in games to where one game caters a bit to everyone and one game is more of a traditional Battlefield game.

I'm down for this. 3 of us with PKPs and 1 medic biggrin.gif.

We gotta try this. Constant firing, never stopping, staggered firing so two guns are always going. Yup, I'm down biggrin.gif.

We might feel like the dude who gets killed in the airport in that MW game.

I kinda disagree.

And I'm not going to say this from a "gamers" pov, more like a casual gamers pov: COD is
1) Easier
2) Faster Paced

Because in all honesty: gold guns..? colored reticules..? Useless. The novelty wears off quickly.

When COD 4 was still big, the MODs are what made it explode. Aliens, Zombies, a ton of custom maps--there's even a Star Wars mod for it now. Those days are gone. Over. If you want content now you'll have to buy it.

This is my first BF game (as a COD convert) and, even though all the vets say it's not like BF2--I still noticed a very distinct learning curve to this game. As much as vets say the game has been "simplified," it's still harder to play than COD.

I downloaded the Free Weekend MW3 last night and uninstalled it after 22 minutes; no way I could go back to that now.

BF3 has everything MW3 has and more: camos, a zillion attachments, dog tags, gadgets, vehicles, not to even get started on the destruction....res teammates, give ammo, fix stuff.

And I'm sorry BF vets but, I still think EA/DICE are doing the right thing by trying to make BF3 the One-Stop-Shop for all fps gamer types...Armored Kill is coming, for you guys thumb.gif

Armored kill is just more of the same "simplified, dumbed down" gameplay, with extra tanks on the map. Not really the same thing.

BF2 had the "Armored Fury" DLC. This will be more akin to that than actual BF2.

What do you mean as in "easy" easy as in like plug in play and get kills or as in easy as in skill wise? Battlefield 3 isn't a CoD convert at all, only similarities is the faster paced gameplay and more variety. I can't go to Battlefield and play it like CoD and do good, no. Battlefield 3 and Cod all have their learning curve. People say CoD is easy but, one of the reasons why i think so many people say that is because they've been playing it for so long, you know. Playing the game and actually being good are two completely different things. It took me about 8 months to become really good. as a completely new player to the series. As you said, this is your first BF game, of course it's gonna seem harder than CoD, it's a completely new game, give it 6 months and you'll see there's no point in even comparing the two, because the way of learning and interacting within the game is completely different. Just like if you throw a die hard BF fan that has never played CoD is gonna do horrible because he's used to that slower paced gameplay and different tactics that BF has.

Oh and to any questioning my skill lol :

I played Tribes 2 and C&C Renegade as my only FPS games for several years before BF2. I did fine. Then I hopped into a MW4 server and blew everyone away, getting top scores every round. Same thing in MW2, BFBC2, and now BF3.

It seems your theory is incorrect. And yeah, CoD and BFBC2/BF3 have nearly identical infantry combat styles. If you're good at one, you're already good at the others. The only exception in this list if BF2 where infantry combat followed an entirely different formula.

If your idea of infantry combat is simply firing your weapon, then maybe you could be right. That's not counting bullet drop being absent in CoD.

However, in terms of the overall infantry experience, its nothing near identical.

BF2 had the "Armored Fury" DLC. This will be more akin to that than actual BF2.

I mentioned it because it's supposed to have the biggest map in BF history or something like that. Maps too small, caps too close together: those are the main reasons I hear BF3 is not the successor to BF2--aside from the no voip and smaller squads.

But, like I said: this is my first BF game so I only go by what I read around here in the forums. Some people insist BF2 was the Holy Grail of BFs; other say it was just as bug ridden and had just as many maps with choke points and explosives spam.

Personally, I'm just hoping DICE makes the right maps/modes for everyone, so everyone can have fun with this game.

I didn't mean BF was a COD convert, I meant I'm a converted COD player. biggrin.gif Sorry for the bad writing.

Personally I just find COD a bit "easier" because you have less interaction with the game itself. As an example: in BF3, hit Q to spot, drop ammo/meds/repair, give an order to attack an objective, pick up enemy mines, drop mines, use a vehicle, res, plant MCOMs/destroy MCOMs. And in COD you don't have to worry about an entire building collapsing with you in it, or getting buried under a huge pile of rubble when someone drops a buildings facade.

I AM NOT saying "People who play MW are lame," or anything like that. Not at all. BF3 just has a LOT more to offer, imho. No going back for me. BF3, ARMA 3 (another learning curve) this summer and I'm good.

To the guy who posted videos of someone spraying a 249 and 240bravo uh yeah there is no way you can be effective with those weapons from the hip. In fact it is near impossible to even be effective with those weapons standing up. Not only that no one fires either weapon fully automatic. US army calls for 6-9 round burst from the prone position to maintain accuracy. Spent 3 years in Army Infantry and just thought it was funny someone posted that.
