Is this possible or do I start from scratch??

Hi everyone,

Right now I have a dell vostro in a midtower case sitting under my table.
It is very difficult for me to turn on the computer every time since i have to bend all the way down..
So I am thinking about buying a mini atx case and transporting everything int here?
Is that possible due to the weird Dell mobo form factor?

I want it something like this for the convenience factor
Any helpful suggestions are welcome smile.gif

EDIT: this is not for my sig rig!!

well... before we start, how old is the machine? just to see if it's worth the effort to even try to transport the guts of that machine into something else biggrin.gif

IIRC, Dell uses the BTX form factor for a lot of their cases. That would mean it is not compatible although there are a few cases on the market that allow BTX to fit.

What is the model number on the case?

Yeah you are right that's why I thought this whole thing might not work

I have the dell vostro 460 currently.

You mean this?

desktop-vostro-460-left-hero-504x350.psd

You could just wire up a power button and route that to the top of the desk.

gallery_3.jpg

Based on this, it is a normal mATX mobo so you could throw it in any other case.

Yep that's the one I have and great, I didnt know Dell started using matx mobo now.

What you are suggesting is a great idea. However I would still prefer to get a matx case (kinda like the one shown in OP) so i can stack on my monitor on top and everything, (USB, power on, dvd rom) all within my touch biggrin.gif, also this would be kind of fun in my downtime.

so any great sturdy inexpensive case you can recommend??

Are you using a video card? Is it low profile or full profile?

Unless you mean everything inside the vostro is stock. I think you might need a new PSU since Dell does use stupid sized PSUs. They may have fixed that like they did with the mobo form factor.

A speccy screenshot would be good.

Hmmm, are you super opposed to just...putting it on your desk? The hardware used doesn't seem to be slim-oriented, and I don't think it will be an easy / cheap project to get it to the form factor you want it to be.

In theory, you can migrate it into most of these cases:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100008308+600043624&QksAutoSuggestion=&ShowDeactivatedMark=False&Configurator=&IsNodeId=1&Subcategory=690&description=&hisInDesc=&Ntk=&CFG=&SpeTabStoreType=&AdvancedSearch=1&srchInDesc=

The main issues will be the heatsink sink, PSU size, and perhaps Optical Drive (and potentially PCIe cards if you have any)

Everything is stock. I use this for my small office. psu shouldnt be a problem. i see ones on newegg that has psu together with case.
